‘Electric Rain’ Drops Inside InterContinental Milwaukee

Discovered art exhibit will be displayed in the hotel’s Gallerie M

MILWAUKEE – Feb. 20, 2012–Designed by man, made beautiful by nature’s elements. Milwaukee recycling entrepreneur Chip Gianakos will debut his new exhibit, ‘Electric Rain,’ at Gallerie M, located inside InterContinental Milwaukee, which is owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts. The exhibit will move into the space today and will remain on display through the end of March.

A unique collection of discovered art, Electric Rain features10-15copper forms that have been beautifully altered over the years by their exposure to sun and rain. Gianakos discovered the industrial copper components in the outdoors in the Milwaukee arealast year through the course of his daily operating activities at the recycling company he owns, Trans Industrial Material Systems, LLC. Through his expertise in the recycling field, he has dated the materials back at least a decade.

“These industrial relics portray the fascinating history of industrial design under a color spectrum that only nature produces,” explains Gianakos. “Due to the unique process in which they were created, these items are one-of-a-kind and cannot be replicated.”

After discovering the unique pieces, Gianakos took several months to excavate and preserve them, a process that consisted of uncovering and extracting them from the outdoors, and removing mud, ice, metal, stones, water, and other organic materials from their surfaces.

“Exploring the seemingly incongruent marriage of earth and electronics, this exhibit challenges us to hear Mother Nature’s outcry regarding man’s artificial technology machine and its relationship to our planet and future,” Gianakos adds.
