The emWave technology is based on nearly two decades of research on the physiology of learning and optimal performance. It will help you learn techniques that induce a more “coherent” state, which increases mental clarity and emotional stability, especially in challenging situations. You will learn to take an active role in self-regulating stressful feelings – skills proven to be central to achieving academic and social success.
Instructions for Using the HeartmathEmWave Pro
Setting Up
Computer: Turn computer on (no password is needed, just press enter).
Click on EmWave Pro (red heart with white line).
Sensor: Plug the USB sensor (found in zip-loc bag in desk drawer) into the computer.
Clip the ear sensor to your earlobe.
To Use the Coherence Coach
Once you have opened the program and hooked up to the sensor, click on the balloon icon, the choose the Coherence Coach (top left)
Click Start. Breateh along with the ball, inhaling when the ball rises, exhaling when the ball descends. You can adjust the pacing of the coherence coach until you have found a comfortable rhythm, usually between 4 and 6 seconds (or 8 and 12 seconds for a full breath cycle).
Use this as a guide for consistency of breathing rhythm until you can maintain this on your own. This rhythm should be relaxed and comfortable, not forced in any way.
You can use the Quick Coherence Technique (instructions in the Building Personal Resilience guide book, also found in the desk drawer) along with this breathing guide for best effectiveness.
Just click stop, when finished.
Using Games and Visualizers
Open game or visualizer (under balloon icon). Click Start, and use the slow deeper breathing or Quick Coherence Technique. Program will give you feedback and record your coherence ratio and related data which you can erase from the computer when finished with your session.

When Complete
To delete your data, go to Edit then select Delete Selected Session.
Please make sure you return the Building Personal Resilience guide and the USB sensor to the zip-loc bag, and to the drawer for others to use.
