How to use the Mapping tool – text entry version
What is the mapping tool – text entry version?
The text entry version is exactly the same as the Mapping Tool you may have used in Activity 1, except that it allows allows you to give the map a title and key of your choice.
How do I give the map a title and key?
Click on each box and type in your text. The title should reflect what the map shows. You might like to simply use one colour in the key to show the different countries that you have connections with. If you want to show the amount of connections you have with particular countries, you will need to use more than one colour and work out a range for each. The key used in the Mapping tool in Activity 1 will give you an idea, but the exact numbers used will depend on how many connections you identify. For instance, there is not much use in having the top range set at 5 if don’t have any that many connections with any one country. You will need to look at your tally for each country to work out the best ranges to use.
Which countries can I colour on the map?
162 countries can be mapped using the Mapping tool. It is handy to know that these countries can’t be coloured using the Mapping tool. This is mainly because of their very small size, e.g. small Pacific islands.
