TuksYouthRugby

The time is nearing for TuksYouthRugby’s pre-season rugby clinics to kick off.

TuksYouthRugby provide to the rugby playing youth of Pretoria and surroundings the opportunity to enjoy their passion for rugby within a professional environment.

Very well qualified coaches and officials assist the players in developing their potential and skills to a higher level.

Should rugby be your child’s passion and you want your son/daughter’s rugby skills to be further developed through quality rugby coaching, more exposure and opportunities, is TuksYouthRugby the right place to be.

Another objective of TuksYouthRugby is to prepare the players to such an extent to provide to them the best opportunity to stand a chance to be selected for the respective Blue Bull youth teams (u/13 to u/18). Take note: Players must be registered for at least 2 years successively at a youth club and participated in rugby matches during that period to qualify for selection for a Blue Bull youth team.

Primary school teams, u/8 tot u/13 (boys only), and high school teams, u/14 to u/18 (boys and girls teams), are accommodated. Annually TuksYouthRugby introduce the u/8 bulletjies to the 15-man code and make them acquainted with the play. This transformation phase is ideal preparation for the bulletjies for the following year’s school rugby and the value thereof is proven in the past and cannot be underrated.

The first pre-season rugby clinic will take place on Saturday, 17 May 2014 from 09:00 to 11:00 at LC de Villiers (TuksSport Campus) A- to E-fields. The first official practice for the 2014 season will start on Friday, 25 July 2014, after the school holidays and will take place on a weekly basis on a Friday night at 18:00 at LC de Villiers (TuksSport Campus) during the entire season. The season’s youth rugby matches will start on Saturday, 02 August 2014, and the season will close on Saturday, 27September 2014. All matches are played on Saturdays.

It is one of TuksYouthRugby’s aims this season to take one further step by providing an opportunity to high school girls to become involved in sevens rugby for girls ages u/14 to u/18. There is a huge need to develop school girls for women sevens rugby and to serve as a feeder for women sevens rugby post matric (school years).

Pre-season rugby clinics and practices will focus on skills development and conditioning.

We also believe that this initiative will open doors for girls and/or women to be trained as coaches and /or referees and to become involved in women’s sevens rugby. TuksYouthRugby in co-operation with TuksWomenRugby is in process of negotiating with several of the retired and current women’s sevens players in becoming involved as coaches of the proposed rugby sevens teams for girls. All of these players and ex-players are already qualified as coaches. More info regarding the above will be placed on the website at a later stage.

Furthermore, TuksYouthRugby also plan to implement the following initiative during the 2014 season which involves the recruiting of boys and girls ages 16 to 19 for our newly established Referee Development Programme. School boys and girls ages 16 to 19 that are interested in rugby refereeing will be recruited and trained through the Blue Bulls Rugby Referees’ Society (BBRRS). Youth Rugby provides lots of opportunities for young and emerging referees to gain exposure and valuable experience, especially in an environment where rugby is played for the love and enjoyment thereof and where the pressure to win is much less.

Those interested in the above are welcome to contact Philip Botha at 082 563 4895.
