  2. Roll Call and introductions

  1. Updates on Center on University Access and Inclusion
  2. Commission reporting structure
  3. For the time being all of the commissions will report through Priscilla Mills, Associate VP for Equity and Compliance, until the new Chief Diversity Officer is hired.
  4. Comments on the job description are requested – this is important to voice our objectives.
  5. How will the commission be represented on the search committee? Chris has sent a letter of interest to serve on the committee. We ask that anyone who may serve on the committee also represent CDAD’s voice.

  2. Nominations due Monday, March 7th, at:
  1. Disability Heritage Month Montage (see attached)
  2. IHD video and CDAD participation
  3. Tom requested that, as a group, CDAD approve the script Chris and Lauren wrote for a video IHD will produce about Disability Heritage Month events.
  4. We can use this video as a promotion on the CDAD site
  5. We can send it to NAU News
  6. It can be used as an example of a well done, accessible video.

  2. Dallas Diaz, Director of Diversity, ASNAU – Could not attend
  3. Dr. McComb from Oregon State University meeting with commissions February 23rd at 2:00, and presentation February 24th at 6:00 in Cline auditorium.
  1. IMS Leadership and Diversity Conference
  2. April 22-23, great opportunity for us to talk about disability as a part of diversity. Deadline to submit is March 27th.
  3. Chris, Kathy, and Matthew are putting together a proposal
  4. Matthew question: Is this only for faculty? (we asked Yoleidy and she said this year submissions are limited to faculty and staff).
  5. There are some really great things going on with respect to disability.
  6. A residential learning community in Allen Hall
  7. DIS studies minor partnering with social work program
  8. Through these avenues conversations about access and what that means on campus have happened among the students.
  1. Facility Services Project Updates
  2. Aquatic and Tennis Center (ATC)
  3. Grand opening Friday, 2/19-2/20
  4. SAS Open House
  5. Opening was good – tours, food, drinks. The building was dedicated to a long-time advisor
  6. Jamie noticed that the pressure of the vestibule space seems to change when the sliding doors are propped open and it seems to affect the functionality of the automatic doors leading in.
  7. Other key updates
  8. Runke Drive apartments are starting
  9. We need to pay attention to the paths of travel around the construction zone.
  10. N/S pedway project happening this summer. The entire section of pedwaybetween Moment Plaza (just north of the Union) to Dupont will be replaced with concrete.
  11. Cline Library and SBS West all gender restrooms are approved and will begin construction soon. Some of the funding has come from the ADA holding account.
  12. The bookstore upgrade will also begin this summer. This will include a new entrance, upgrades inside, sidewalks, and crosswalks.

  2. Matthew participated in Health Promotion’s sex week. He reported that it went very well.
  3. 25 people attended, had a great conversation about disability and sex, lots of questions.
  4. Jack, the health educator, who was in charge of sex week, was there and really like the talk. Aske Matthew to do more during next year’s event.
  5. In April there is a sex abuse and prevention week.
  6. Matthew has been asked to talk during this week as well. Date TBD
  7. Matthew’s conversation about disability’s spring date is March 9th from 7-8 in the Union, in the lounge area (where Starbucks used to be).
  8. 2017 is the 50th anniversary of IHD, a planning committee will be created to align events with the anniversary.
