POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Certified Case Manager
Program: PD/TABS/School Services
General Purpose:
Under the guidance of the PD/TABS/School Services Director to provide technical assistance and resources necessary to improve student outcomes in the area of special education and related services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Recruits professionals in the areas of speech and language therapy, occupational and physical therapy, vocational assessments, psychiatry, psychology, audiology, hearing impairment, language interpretation, social work, teacher assistants, job coaches, sign language interpretation, functional behavioral assessment and behavior management.
2. Assigns professionals to meet schools’ requests.
3. Maintains currency in understanding State statutes and initiates changes to legislation affecting special education by attending meetings with State legislators, superintendents and directors of special education.
4. Provides ongoing technical assistance to department heads and State consultants in the area of special education to ensure that students’ needs are promptly addressed.
5. Provides districts with technical assistance and workshop training so that their staff is kept abreast of current trends and laws in education.
6. Supervises assigned CREC employees in Magnet and Vocational Schools.
7. Supervises special education procedures at the Metropolitan Learning Center.
8. Monitors contract and the billing for services rendered.
9. Processes requests for goods and services for the Department of Corrections to ensure prompt delivery.
10. Advises Division of Professional Development and TABS of latest legislative developments in the field of special education including potential areas for new CREC services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
BS/BA in education and MS/MA in special education plus 3 years special education administrative experience and several years of direct teaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be thoroughly familiar with current legislation affecting special education and related services. Must have extensive knowledge of sources for professional people skilled in the various disciplines required in the special education field. Requires good communication and presentation skills and a good command of adult learning theory.
Supervision
All temporary employees hired to work in the vocational technical schools are supervised by this position. Responsible for hiring and organizing, assigning and checking work, appraising performance and determining all salary actions for these employees.
