Background / The Department of Health (Health) provides policy advice, analysis and other services to the Australian Government. Health is responsible for achieving the Government’s priorities for population health, pharmaceutical services, medical services, indigenous health, private health, health system capacity and quality, mental health, health workforce capacity, acute care and biosecurity and emergency response.
Health is a medium sized department geographically centred in the ACT with State and Territory offices. The department also provides corporate support to around 20 portfolio agencies.
The IT Division (ITD) is responsible for developing and providing a wide range of services to support the business and operating environment of the department and some of its portfolio agencies. ITD's role is to provide expert, specialised and highly efficient support services including maintaining and developing IT applications; ICT infrastructure, business management and corporate services. Information Knowledge management Branch (IKMB) is tasked with building and managing the EDW.
Health has a medium sized ICT organisation relative to other Commonwealth departments.
The department currently sources the majority of its ICT services including Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) from DataCom through the IT Services Agreement. Other services, including data network and voice infrastructure, are currently sourced from multiple service providers.
IKMB currently has an aggressive forward work plan to deliver additional capability into the EDW during FY 2015/16. Recent Machinery of Government (MoG) changes have put further pressure on the resource demands, particularly ETL developers.
Services/work required / The Department is seeking the services of two Enterprise Data Warehouse/Informatica Specialists, who will be work as part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for a delivering either data feeds to/from Health’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), or the population of Dimensional Data Store or an Integrated Data Store.
The successful applicant will be working closely with the current team developing capability within the EDW, including external service provider staff, business users and external agencies or departments responsible for delivery and/or receiving the data.
The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, demonstrated initiative, be able to work in a team, and have 4 or more years’ demonstrated experience working in a similar role. Experience in a Teradata environment will be well regarded.
Specialist
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Work as part of a small team to develop code to manage data flows into or out of the EDW for reporting or transfer to other agencies;
Develop code to build models to support Dimensional Data Stores or Integrated Data stores requirements;
Produce project artefacts as required;
Work closely with external service providers and external departments to develop, test and implement the changes;
Provide assistance to junior staff as required;
Contribute to project delivery by assisting in developing technical solutions and specifications; and
Report regularly to the Project Manager on progress.

Documentation / The following reporting will be required throughout the duration of the contract:
Monthly timesheet completion;
Monthly status reports; and
Other project reporting as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Criteria:

Applicants must demonstrate the following:

Relevant experience of at least 4 years, ETL development using Informatica products;

SQL and other standard database query tools;

Experience in dealing with external service providers on service and product delivery;

Motivation and focus on ensuring timeliness and quality of deliverables; and

Demonstrated ability to deal professionally, tactfully and effectively with various stakeholders (both internally and externally) at all organisational levels.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

Experience in Enterprise Data Warehouse ideally Teradata.
