Module Overview

This module is intended to develop students’ ability to acquire and use the language of business and tourism. It is assumed that students will be divided according to their management specialism i.e. business or tourism

Pre-requisite/Co-requisites: Completion of Semester 1

Module Aims

Specific purposes of the module are as follows:

  • To study and practice key vocabulary of business (and tourism where applicable)
  • To increase understanding of key words and concepts through exploitation of relevant texts
  • To provide opportunities for discussion, writing and presenting on related topics

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should

  • have an understanding of business/tourism language
  • have increased knowledge of usage of vocabulary and concepts in a variety of contexts
  • demonstrate skill in usingbusiness/tourism language effectively
  • demonstrate ability in summarizing news stories related to business / tourism

Methods of Teaching/Learning

Teaching will be delivered in a combination of teacher and student-led activities. There will be opportunities for class discussion and group work. Further guidance for independent study will be provided by the class tutor.
