Line Graph
(y axis)
(x axis)
A line graph shows the changes in data over time .
Data and Graphing
Pictograph
Keyà
A pictograph uses sets of pictures to represent information. Use the key to solve the problem.
Data and Graphing

Bar Graph

A bar graph uses horizontal or vertical lines
to show or information.
Data and Graphing
Line Plot

In a line plot, data is placed on a number line using symbols.
Data and Graphing
Stem and Leaf Plot

In a stem-and-leaf plot each data value is split into a "stem" and a "leaf". The "leaf" is usually the last digit of the number and the other digits to the left of the "leaf" form the "stem".

·  When you think you have found the correct pattern, always check and be sure it works!
Lines

Line

A line is a straight path that goes on forever in both directions. It has no endpoints.
Lines

Line Segment
A straight line between two points. The points are called endpoints.

In this example A and B are the endpoints.
Lines

Parallel Lines
Parallel lines never meet or cross. They stay the same distance apart.

Main Street
Elm Street
The map shows that Main and Elm Street are
parallel to each other.
Angles

Angles
Angles are formed by 2 rays or line segments and share the same endpoint. The endpoint they share is called a vertex.

Angles

Acute Angles

An acute angle measures less than 90 degrees.
Angles

Right Angles

A right angle measures exactly 90 degrees.
Angles

Obtuse Angles

An obtuse angel measures more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees.
Triangles

Triangle
A triangle is a polygon with 3 sides, 3 vertices (corners) and 3 angles.

Quadrilaterals

Quadrilaterals
A quadrilateral is a shape with 4 sides, 4 vertices (corners), and 4 angles.

Quadrilaterals

Square
A square is a quadrilateral. All the square’s sides are the same length.
It has all right angles and 2 pairs of parallel lines.

Quadrilaterals

Rectangle
A rectangle is a quadrilateral.
The opposite sides of the rectangle are the same length. It has all right angles and 2 sets of parallel lines.

Quadrilaterals

Rhombus
A rhombus is a quadrilateral whose sides are all the same length. It shaped like a diamond. The opposite angles are equal and it has 2 sets of parrallel lines.

Quadrilaterals

Parallellogram
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral that has 2 pairs of parallel sides.
The opposite sides are congruent (equal).

Quadrilaterals

Trapezoid
A trapezoid is a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel lines.

Quadrilaterals

Kite
A kite is a quadrilateral that has 2 pairs of equal sides but does not have any parrallel lines.

Other Polygons

Pentagon
A pentagon has 5 sides, 5 vertices (corners), and 5 angles.

Other Polygons

Hexagon
A hexagon has 6 sides, 6 vertices, and 6 angles.

Other Polygons

Octagon
An octagon has 8 sides, 8 vertices, and 8 angles.

Math Vocabulary

Congruent
Congruent means something that is
the same shape and the same size.

These triangles are congruent.
Math Vocabulary

Similar
Shapes that are similar are the same shape but NOT the same size.

Math Vocabulary

Adjacent
Adjacent means next to.

Angles 1 and 2 are adjacent to each other.
Measurement
Customary (US) Measurement - Length

The main unit is the inch.
12 inches = 1 foot
36 inches = 1 yard
3 feet = 1 yard
5,280 feet = 1 mile
From least (shortest) to greatest (longest)
inch – foot – yard – mile
Measurement

Metric Measurement - Length

The main unit is the meter.
10 millimeters = 1 centimeter
1000 millimeters = 100 centimeters = 1 meter
1000 meters = 1 kilometer
Measurement
Customary (US) Measurement- Weight
