Triple E (Energy, Environment and Economics) Seminar - November 17-18, 2016

A 2-day workshop that is offered to teachers, Kindergarten through 8th grade in partnership with the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh. Teachers will receive 10 professional education hours and will acquire hands-on, classroom friendly experiments to take back to their classrooms. Supplies for classroom activities will be provided. The Science Bowl is a highly competitive academic event in which teams of high school and middle school students compete in a timed forum to produce answers to technical, science and math questions. Light, Color and Spectroscopy for Kids Seminar – March 30, 2017

A seminar for elementary and middle school teachers aimed at introducing children to the science of light. Teachers will receive professional education hours (Act 48) and supplies for activities to conduct in the classroom. The Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) developed this seminar which is co-sponsored with the Society of Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP). Computer Software Workshop for Chemistry and Physics Teachers – April 6, 2017

Teachers are tutored on data manipulation software, physics laboratory software and simulation and classroom programs. The workshop is computer based and all software is up-to-date, user-friendly and well adapted for the science classroom, science laboratory or homework assignments. Teachers are provided copies of the software to take back to their classrooms/students. The workshop is sponsored by the Society of Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP). Earth Day Posters Due – April 3, 2017

Each year NETL hosts an Earth Day Poster contest for students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth grade. The contest is meant to emphasize the importance of recycling, conserving energy and improving air quality. The winning posters are selected by a committee and posted on NETL’s website. School Science Lab Days/Career Days – Upon Request

NETL will bring hands-on science to students between Kindergarten and 8th Grade at local schools. With simple experiments that teach complex concepts and are matched to the National Teaching Standards – from the power of ultraviolet light to understanding diffusion through scent – Lab Days make science accessible.
