Happy New Year to you and I hope that your winter training is going well. You are being sent this information as you are shown as your force contact for the marathon or I have your email as an individual who has shown personal interest in entering this event. If you are not your force organiser can you ensure that this message and information gets forwarded to who ever is please.

I am delighted to inform you that this years Marathon will takes places on the Isle of Wight in Hampshire on Sunday 11th October 2015 starting at 1130 am from Cowes.

Attached is the entry form. Please complete all details and send the original entry form and entry fee to me following the details provided. Can you also email me a copy of your entry form and let me know your intentions to enter.

A few snippets from the open race website are below to give you a flavour of the event:

A brand new course (first used 2013) of one lap featuring the much quieter roads on the west of the island

These are the undulating town and rural roads through Cowes, Gurnard, Rew Street, Porchfield, Shalfleet,

Yarmouth, Afton, Willmingham, Thorley, Wellow, Shalfleet, Porchfield, Northwood, Cowes.

Marker boards at each mile point. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Venue and Registration: Isle of Wight Community Club, Park Road Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO31 7NP.

Changing and Shower facilities are available, secure bag storage is available.

There are eight drinks stations at approximately 3 Mile intervals with seven sponge stations in between.

Competitors may leave their own Special Drinks at registration to be taken to any designated drinks station.

Medals will be awarded to all finishers.

Note:Numbers are not sent out in advance.

Please collect race numbers from registration.

Concessionary rate travel on Ferries may be offered by Wightlink and/or Red Funnel Ferries details will be provided on entry.

Ferries to Cowes from Southampton are operated by Red Funnel Ferries.

Entry:

See enclosed Police entry form which is to be utilised. Closing date 1/10/15.

Travel:

To access Cowes on the Isle of Wight you will need to board a ferry either on foot or by car/minibus. The best Port of embarkation is Southampton for this location. From Cowes it is a 15 minute walk to registration up hill. When booking your ferry please allow for this time.

Example: car/mpv and 4 person day return £27. Ferry depart 0900hrs arrives Cowes 1000hrs. Foot passenger only £8.20

Red funnel provide a Redjet fast foot passenger ferry service as well via following the same link. The redjet runs every half hour and takes 25 mins a crossing arriving in West Cowes. Passenger fares are currently at £23.50 a day return.

The below link shows you were to find the ferry port and local parking should you wish to travel across as a foot passenger.

In the event that you choose to stay on the Island or travel by car and access the Island from other ports at Lymington or Portsmouth please use one of the below links to access ferry information.

The organiser is in negotiations with the ferry companies to seek a 15% discount on those entering the marathon. I will up date you on this information as soon as I get any further notice.

Southampton is serviced by a local airport, train, bus stations and motorway network and is easily accessible.

The airport has a train station immediately outside and it is a short trip into Southampton Central station.

If anyone chooses to fly I may be able to assist in collection from the airport to accomodation of your choice on the day before but I will not be able to provide transport on the day of the race as I be engaged in other organising matters. Please contact me if you wish to discuss this option. I will try my best to assist.

Accommodation:

Southampton has host of Hotels and B&B's options. The Isle of Wight is a popular holiday destination and thus also has several accommodation options. You will be required to find your own accommodation. You can access offered accommodation by following several of the above transport links. May I remind you that if you are claiming money thorough your sports and social club for accommodation an advisory level is set at around £50 pppn. We ask that you keep this in mind when choosing your accommodation.

Registration: I still have to confirm this with the organiser but it is likely to be on the race day as per the open race. You will get your race number at registration.

Post Race Presentation:

You will be eligible for open prizes as well as Police awards. There is good prizes money for all categories. I have yet to confirm the exact location for the presentation and post race food but it will be close to the Open race presentation in Cowes. The open race organisers says that he aims to achieve a 1600hrs presentation time. Our presentation is likely to be immediately afterwards. This will give you some idea for your onward plans.
