JOB DESCRIPTION: Communications Coordinator

LOCATION: District Council Offices, 96 West End,

Kaikoura

REPORTING TO: Communications Officer

PAY RANGE: $45,000- $57,000

OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Provide support to the Communications Officer by assisting with the operational delivery of the communications programme, focusing on earthquake recovery and community engagement.

We’re looking for:

We are looking for someone special to fill a fixed term (one year) position providing coordination and administration support for Kaikoura District Council Communications. This is a new role that will help implement communications for the Council with a focus on earthquake recovery.

We need someone who can multi-task and finds it easy to keep several different jobs on the go at once. Someone who can connect easily and quickly with the full range of Kaikoura residents and ‘walk in their shoes’, helping ensure Council is providing the right kinds of information, in the right ways, to the right people.

This includes: writing stories and news, designing collateral and pulling together information from Council, partner agencies and community sources and delivering it to people's doorsteps via a number of channels (community meetings and supporting materials, physical noticeboards, hardcopy newsletters, website, social media). You’ll be writing content, looking after our social media and website, planning workshops and events, taking photos, making videos and a multitude of other tasks.

You need to be comfortable in a fast-paced and changing role where one day is never the same as the next and curve balls are the norm. You need to be able to think on your feet and adapt instantly when things change.

Key responsibilities / Expected outcomes
·  Day to day maintenance, updating and tracking of KDC’s online (website and social media) channels
·  Collating, editing and coordinating the delivery of KDC’s e-newsletter and hard copy newsletters
·  Provide copy-writing services to staff on an ad-hoc basis
·  Assist in the preparation of documents, resources and material for meetings, workshops, and training sessions
·  Checking and updating contact lists.
·  Helping deliver a programme of internal communication to staff and elected members
·  Responding to external email correspondence from the public and stakeholders
·  Undertaking a range of miscellaneous tasks in support of day to day communications activities
·  Assist in the tracking and reporting of the Communications work programme / ·  Effective external communication supports the recovery of the Kaikoura community
·  Website and social content is timely, relevant and engaging
·  Copy-writing completed on key documents and collateral
·  Improved community engagement and satisfaction.
Organisational obligations
·  As an employee of the Council you are required to be associated, as required, with Civil Defence Emergency Management or any exercise that might be organised in relation to this council function.

Qualifications:

·  Relevant body of experience and knowledge in similar positions. / ·  A relevant tertiary qualification.
