The Mission

The Mission is a very deep and involving movie that portrays an ugly view of the early Catholic Church. It makes me think of how far the Church has come as a whole. That time is a time that was very difficult to live in because of the political battles and the slave trade.

The Mission was set in a time where divine law and human decency had no meaning of moral bounds. It was set in a time where the Church and the government were one in the same. This leadership was a mockery of the Catholic Church and was a disgrace in front of the world. I only wish the leaders could have seen it the way I see it now.

Nothing can prepare me or anyone else for the notion of the cruelty that our fellow Christians endured through their times of suffering and despair. This, of which, has no place in the heart of our religion. I would have said to all those who reek of the stench of savagery to take a hard look into their souls and find a place of peace and tranquillity. If only they could have opened their minds to the harsh reality that barred all of them from enjoying life on this beautiful planet that God gave us.

The harshness of that world so long ago still lives and thrives in the depths of our society. It still survives in people such as Saddam Hussein and everyone who murders and steals. The fact that this barbarity still exists in our society is the primary reason for our religion to still exist. It is an alternative to the violence and hatred that surrounds us in our everyday lives. This is the reason that people turn to faith and religion. It is a sanctuary from all that is evil, so that we may hide from the reality of our lives as citizens of the world.

This movie is a prime example of how the wars of yesterday have evolved into the gangs and cults that are around today. People fail to realize that no matter how different the two seem to be, they are very much the same. The Spanish and Portuguese are the drug dealers and gang leaders. The Indian Tribes represent the police force. The police lose this battle everyday and nobody really seems to care. Everyone goes on with their normal lives and tries to tune out the real world.

These facts are an utter disgrace to our society today and should be evaluated by everyone on an individual basis because if we continue to live our lives in denial, we are setting ourselves up for a frightful disaster. I only hope that we can overcome our own disease and discard of it someday.
