There is more to life than merely increasing its speed. Gandhi

Ever feel that life is a race and you are losing? Summer it appears is going by so fast. Much of what makes it go fast are so many places to go and people to see. These are all great, until we get tired.

So are you taking a Sabbath? Are you taking some time to relax, at least be quiet for an hour? Are you taking time to cook and enjoy time with family and friends? Have you taken your vacation? Are you spending time in Worship with God, those Holy times of prayer and praise with God? Busy we all know, yet Sabbath we can have each day and each year if we allow it into our lives. Along with the days swiftly passing, some updates for you on the upcoming activities of the church.

Do you like to Worship on Wednesday Evenings, and do you like S’mores? Join us August 31st for a fire and fun outside.

Our missionaries, Jacqueline and Patrick Bencke, which we support, will be leading worship on August 28th, 2016. We will share a pot-luck meal together (or in Malaysia they would say, pot-bless). Come and hear of the mission we support each year.

Be in prayer about what you would like to do for “God’s Work, Our Hands” day on September 11th, 2016. Whom would you like to serve? Who needs our help?

Do you have a child in mind to invite to Sunday school or to Wednesday Evenings Faith in Action? What about Confirmation? Would you like to help and assist with any of these activities?

Are you interested in joining one of the Bible Studies that we have? Revelations? Adult Confirmation? Men’s morning group? Women’s morning group? Would you like to join the “Mission and Visioning” team which are having meetings to ask the question, “What is God up to here at First in Hinckley, MN.”

As you take your Sabbath, include in your prayer the work of the ministry of Jesus Christ here at First Lutheran. One of many sticky notes that I have on my desk says this: Our goal is to meet people where they are regardless of who they are.

Pray, worship and give thanks as we continue to spread the gift of God’s love……

Shalom,

Pastor Brenda Wicklund.

You are not made for the Sabbath; the Sabbath is made for you. Mark 2:27

“Jesus said; Let the children come to me”

A Place for You

220 3rd Ave. SE

Pine City, MN

The homeless are everyday people, from all walks of life, hard-working adults who have experienced a problem(s) in their lives that have thrown them off track temporarily. They are any age and every age. In the 3½ years since A Place For You has been open, the shelter has received 951 calls for service from men and women in our 6 county area. We exist to be a blessing to those less fortunate. We exist to be A Place for You.

Coming up-First week of August-

“RESTOCK THE PANTRY”

APFY will be accepting freezer and non-perishable food items. THRIVENT FINANCIAL will be aiding in this endeavor with an additional $250. Food items may be brought to the shelter any day of the week.

Think of GRILLING SEASON! We have an outdoor grill. It would be great to have ground beef, hot dogs, brats etc. in the freezer-also buns and condiment to go with the meal.

More ideas: coffee, jam, non-dairy creamer, peanut butter, cereal, bread, soup, fruit sauce, pasta, spaghetti sauce-bring along a recipe and all the necessary ingredients.

Thank You! For all your support!

New children’s books have been added to the church Library. Preschool and early elementary children will enjoy hearing and reading about Llama Llama’s adventures inLlama Llama Time to Share and Llama Llama and the Bully Goat. The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn is another popular book for youngsters-and adults. For middle grade girls we have two American Girl books Lea Leads the Way and Lea Dives In.

Make and Share Random Acts of Kindness: Simple Crafts and Recipes to Give and Spread Joy is a book for readers of all ages who are looking for ideas and ways to show God’s love to other people (you’ll find that book in the “Christian Living” section.)

All these books can be checked out at our church library.

Please join us in welcoming our missionaries Jacqueline and Patrick Bencke and their family for a time of worship and fellowship on Sunday, August28th. We will have a potluck following the service. Please join us!

GENTLY USED VAN

Please be on the look-out for a gently used van. We are in need of a different van. The one we have, needs lots of work and it is not cost effective. If you see anything of interest, please contact Church Council. Thank You!
