HONORARY TREASURER – JOB DESCRIPTION
The Prostate Cancer Research Centre seeks an Honorary Treasurer to work approximately 2-4 days a month, depending on financial activity, at its offices close to London Bridge. The Treasurer will liaise with the Board on all matters financial and report to the CEO.
Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed male cancer and kills over 10,000 men in the UK every year. The treatment for life-threatening advanced prostate cancer, androgen ablation therapy, was introduced in the 1940s, and is still the primary form of management. Consequently there has been no major improvement in the survival of men with advanced disease for over 70 years. The mission of the Prostate Cancer Research Centre is to drive the development of new treatments that improve the survival of men with advanced prostate cancer.
BACKGROUND
The income and expenditure of the charity is managed by our full time Finance Officer, who inputs data, processes the salaries and responds to donations and other queries.
Detailed information relating to each donation is entered in our charity management database, Donor Strategy, and all accounting information is entered in SAGE 50 Accounts.
HONORARY TREASURER
The Treasurer has responsibility for the financial management of the charity, liaises with the Trustees on all matters financial and run checks as necessary to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the databases and the compatibility of the data. In addition, the Treasurer will undertake other tasks to provide the financial information required by the CEO and Trustees. The Treasurer will
- Ensure the internal financial controls are compatible with Charity Commission requirements
- Oversee the use of the credit card
- Be responsible for the bank accounts and act as a signatory
- Help prepare the monthly accounts for the monthly and annual reports.
- Liaise with auditors to prepare financial report
- Report to the HRMC and Charity Commission
- Help produce budget forecasts at the beginning of the financial year and monitor these on a monthly basis
- Keep the CEO and Trustees informed of financial responsibilities and financial changes (eg SORP, pensions provision) that affect the charity
- Advise the Trustees of the financial implications and key assumptions of annual budgets and staff investments
- Support the investment committee and serve as ad-hoc member of the committee
- Ensure recommendations of the Board, investment committee and the auditors are implemented
- Attend Trustee meetings and present summary information at each meeting and present the annual report at the relevant meeting.
The Treasurer will have an accounting qualification and will have had a senior role in financial management and preferably some experience of charity accounts. He or she will be willing to be hands on when necessary (eg end of financial year) and help the CEO and finance officer with financial matters as needed.

The role of Treasurer is essential and vital to the management and integrity of the charity. The Treasurer will be responsible for ensuring good financial management and reporting and will put in place measures that ensure good governance. It is an indispensable role that requires long term commitment.
