CHURCH MISSION SOCIETY

Job Description

Post: Key Relationships Manager

Responsible to: Director of Fundraising for Mission

Directorate: Fundraising

Grade: G

Hours: Full-time

Introduction

CMS is a community of people in mission who want the world to know Jesus.

Our mission that sets the agenda for all of our work is to “raise people up to share Jesus and to change lives”.

In all of this we will be governed by our four values, our commitment to be: Pioneering, Evangelistic, Relational, and Faithful.

CMS was founded in 1799 by William Wilberforce and others including John Newton. Since then, thanks to the generous and prayerful contributions of God’s people, we have helped support over 10,000 CMS people in mission in Africa, Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East.

Job Context

The Key Relationships Manager’s role is a part of the Fundraising Directorate, consisting of the Church Relations, the Direct Marketing and Key Relationships Teams, together responsible for raising approximately
£6 million in voluntary income for the overall CMS mission programme.

As income from churches in the UK continues to be placed under growing pressure, the CMS fundraising strategy is becoming more reliant on individual donations, including Major Donors. Our strategy is to continue to grow income from individuals, especially Major Donors and we require a full-time Key Relationships Manager to create and implement a new
Major Donor strategy. This role will work with high value and major donors to help shape, develop and grow our major donor network, managing this very important aspect of our fundraising focus.

In addition the post-holder will liaise extensively throughout the various parts of the CMS International Network, at all levels, both in the UK and overseas. This will include particular close working with the Communications Team, International Mission Team, the Finance Team and CMS Africa and

Asia CMS.

Purpose of Job

Working closely with the Director of Fundraising for Mission, the role of the Key Relationships Manager will be to build authentic relationships with current and prospective major donors; the clear outcome being that individuals will make major contributions to projects, programmes and people in mission as part of building their on-going relationship and commitment to CMS. The initial focus of the role will be on developing a major donor strategy and programme. The post-holder will be expected to have an input into the development of a grant and project strategy and build a case for support for the resulting projects.

CMS Major Gift Context

CMS works in over 60 countries and participates in the mission activities of a large number of partners in the UK and worldwide. There is a history of largely unsolicited major gifts to CMS for our work. Major Donors have supported mission work in Sudan, drug rehab in Pakistan, training of RE teachers and the general work of CMS.

In recent years as the charity sector has awoken to the full potential of
Major Gifts, CMS has begun an exploration of our donor care for current Major Donors and the capacity to approach new prospects for major gifts and legacies.
