A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND BUFORD S. MABRY, JR. FOR HIS MORE THAN THIRTY THREE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN OFFICER IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON HIS WELLDESERVED PROMOTION TO THE RANK OF BRIGADIER GENERAL.

Whereas, Buford S. Mabry, Jr.’s prestigious career in public service began more than three decades ago when he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve upon his graduation from The Citadel in 1968; and

Whereas, although Buford S. Mabry, Jr. achieved United States Army branch qualifications in the Infantry as well as the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, it is in the Field Artillery where he has particularly distinguished himself as both an officer and a gentleman; and

Whereas, Buford S. Mabry, Jr. is not only a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course, but also the United States Army Command and General Staff College and the United States Army War College; and

Whereas, in recognition of his unparalleled leadership abilities, Buford S. Mabry, Jr. was selected to hold three Battery Commands, one Battalion Command, and two Brigade Commands, all in the South Carolina Army National Guard; and

Whereas, Buford S. Mabry, Jr. has deservedly received many of our country’s highest military awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters; and

Whereas, in further recognition of his immense talent and countless personal sacrifices on behalf of his State and Nation, Buford S. Mabry, Jr. was recently promoted to the rank of Brigadier General, a most rare and noteworthy achievement in the Reserve Components; and

Whereas, Brigadier General Mabry is the consummate citizen soldier, whose fulltime civilian career as Chief Counsel for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has been no less impressive; and

Whereas, the venerable adage that behind every great man is an even greater woman perhaps has never been more true than in the case of Buford S. Mabry, Jr., who is happily married to the equally distinguished Elizabeth S. Mabry, Executive Director of the South Carolina Department of Transportation, and together they have two loving children and five wonderful grandchildren; and

Whereas, Brigadier General Mabry’s remarkable military career personifies the inspiring motto of South Carolina’s elite 151st Field Artillery Brigade, “Duty Above All”; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to reflect upon the achievements of so distinguished a son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution commends Buford S. Mabry, Jr. for his more than thirty three years of outstanding and dedicated service as an officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard, and congratulates him on his welldeserved promotion to the rank of Brigadier General.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be delivered to Brigadier General Buford S. Mabry, Jr., SCARNG.
