1.RoytonandCrompton School hasadoptedtheN.J.C.SchemeofConditionsofService (Section7) which is concerned with official conduct. Paragraph 70 states:
“ThepublicisentitledtodemandofaLocalGovernmentOfficerconductof thehigheststandard,andpublicconfidenceinhigherintegritywouldbeshaken weretheleastsuspicion,howeverill-founded,toarisethathe/shecouldinany waybe influencedbyimpropermotives.
An officer's off-dutyhours are hispersonal concern buthe should not subordinatehis dutytohis privateinterests orputhimselfina position where his dutyand hisprivateinterests conflict.Theemployingauthorityshouldnot attempttopreclude officers fromundertakingadditional employment, butany such employmentmust not, in the viewof theauthority, conflict with or react detrimentallyto theauthority's interests, or inany way weaken public confidence in the conduct of the authority's business..
The officer shouldnotbe called upontoadvise anypolitical groupof the employingauthorityeither as to the work ofthe group oras to the work ofthe authority; neither shallhe/she be required toattendanymeetingof any political group."
Local GovernmentOfficer -thisincludes allstaffmembersand governors of the school.
The employing authority - in thiscaseisthe school.
2.Allstaffandgovernors must:
(i)bemade aware of Paragraph 70
(ii)Completea Declaration of Interest Form (even iftheyhave nointerests todeclare)atthestartofeachschoolyearandreturnittotheHead teacher.
It isthe responsibilityof governors and staffto ensure their declarations ofinterests are keptuptodate at all times, andto amend or update them as necessary
3.ConflictofInterestcanpotentiallyariseifamemberofstaff,his/herrelatives, closefriends or associatesare:
(i)involvedinabusiness,initiativeorfinancialdealswhichcouldimpinge on theactivities of theSchool
(ii)undertakingworkfororganisationsorindividualswhoseactivitiesmay impinge on the work of theSchool
4.ActualConflictofInterestcanbeavoidedinCases3(i)and(ii)ifthe DeclarationofInterestFormhas beencompletedby any member ofstaffwho believes theymaybe in apositionwhere theirintegritymaybe questioned.

ThisshouldthenbediscussedwiththeHeadteacherandwhereappropriate the GoverningBody.
Theactiontotakeisforthememberofstafftoeitherleavethebusiness, initiative,dealororganisationinquestionorfortheHeadteachertoensurethe member ofstaffhasnodealings with the relevant transactionsor accounts.
5.Thereisnodefinitivelistofspecificpersonsorrelationshipsthatcouldgiverise topossibleconflictofinterestwithintheschool.Reliancemustbeplacedon thejudgementofindividualmembersofstaffastowhatmightbeseenas ConflictofInterestbyany thirdparty butit is appropriatefortheHeadteacher togiveguidance.Relationships that should be declared are recommended to include:
(i)Spouses
(ii)Fiancées
(iii)Livingtogether Partners
(iv)All“blood” Relationships
(v)Relative byMarriage
(vi)Membership of clubs,societies,associationsetc.
(vii)House/Flatsharers
(viii)Close personalfriendships and neighbours
6.Other Conflicts of Interest
As amember ofstaff, it is expected that youperform your job impartially, in accordance with specified proceduresandmake decisions basedsolelyon the circumstances ofcases. YouMUSTNOT takeactionbecauseof personal friendshipsorfamilyrelationships.Todo so wouldbe contraryto your Conditionsof Employment and the CriminalLaw. Consequently, if you find yourselfina positionwhere your motives could bequestioned, youMUST declareanyrelationship that couldbe seen as affecting your judgement, and notbe involved in anyactions relatingtothecase. Fulldeclaration shouldbe noted on your a Declaration ofInterest Form,reported via the Head teacher to your GoverningBodyand recorded in theRegister of Declarations of Interest.
7.Other Employments
StaffshoulddiscloseontheDeclarationofInterestFormiftheyundertake any outside work forpayment.
