Star Lily / Camellia Rose Service Unit Meeting Minutes

March 3, 2016

  • Welcome / Pledge / Promise / Law
  • Recognition opportunities:
  • At last month’s meeting Danette mentioned a new “incentive” program for our leaders. At our Leader / Daughter Dinner in April, we will have an auction for prizes and goodies. The auction will use “Service Unit Bucks” and you earn them as a leader for doing different things. Please see the flyer on the website called “Girl Scout Auction” or the email from the SU with the list of items. If you’ve completed one or more of these tasks since January 1st 2016, email Danette at so she can credit your account. Then make sure to attend the Leader/Daughter Dinner so you can use your bucks!
  • Review of Upcoming Calendar Events:
  • Me and My Guy Masquerade event March 19th: There are still 10 slots remaining. Remember this is not a troop event, so the opportunity can be shared with your parents for girls to attend. Contact Gloria () for more details or see the flyer on the website.
  • Camp Pine Acres Afternoon, April 10th at 4:00 PM: Our service units will be hosting an event at Camp Pine Acres for parents and girls as well as leaders to learn more about Girl Scout Camp opportunities for the summer and activities year round. Please forward the details to your parents so that they can visit the camp that Sunday afternoon.
  • Scavenger Hunt, Downtown Woodstock April 24th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM: Join Daisy Troop 14669 is hosting a Scavenger Hunt for troops in Downtown Woodstock. The cost is $30 per troop. Please bring an item to take digital pictures. The troop is also collecting pet items for the Cherokee County Humane Shelter. Prizes will be awarded for several categories. You will need at least 6 girls to participate - if there are less than 6 girls in your troop, you can combine with other troops to complete the activity. This is a troop activity for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors where the younger girls assign tasks for the older girls to complete and photograph. A flyer will be posted on the website as soon as the final details are released.
  • Mother / Daughter Tea – Sunday May 1st: Registration will open on April 1st. Cost is $25.00 per Mother/Daughter with $5 each for extra daughters and ladies. The event will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Canton First United Methodist Church. Contact Connie () for more details or see the flyer on the website.
  • Bridging Task Completion event, Sunday May 1stfrom 4:30 to 6:00 PM, Canton First United Methodist Church. For all groups who are bridging from one level to the next, there is a task required by Girl Scouts of teaching an activity, song or skit to a younger troop and being taught something by an older troop. In order to facilitate this task, troops can attend this event. Be prepared to teach a younger group something your girls have learned in their level, and you’ll have an older troop to teach something to your girls. THIS IS NOT YOUR TROOP’S BRIDGING / CROSSOVER event. The bridging/crossover event is something you plan for your troop separately. We will announce a way to register your troop soon, so watch for an email and flyer with the details. Troops will need to register for this event.
  • Troops and girls completing a higher award (Bronze or Silver) will be invited to a Service Unit Celebration event in May. More details to come soon.
  • Camp Camellia Rose Update: Gloria reported that registration was almost full for all levels. Waiting lists are available for all levels, but be aware the only way to ensure your daughter can attend is for you to volunteer.
  • Ceremonies and Celebrations discussion:
  • Luanne provided two handouts on how to plan ceremonies and celebrations for your troops. The handouts are found on the Website under “Resources for Leaders” under the Minutes tab.
  • Involve your girls in the planning of events – make sure they begin to learn how to plan an event with the checklists that were provided. The girls should learn how to budget their resources as well as plan events that are fun and meaningful.
  • Updates from Council (Danette)
  • There will be emails coming from council in the near future about something called the Troop Opportunity Catalog. Please READ AND RESPOND as it will affect your troop. If you have further questions, you may email .
  • The Service Unit will do our best to alert you when those emails are sent, but there are multiple changes coming with the Troop Opportunity Catalog.
  • Spring Registration opens April 18th! Be ready to re-register your girls for next year, and be entered in drawings for amazing prizes. Many troops re-register girls with cookie proceeds.
