Threshold / HaRD CCGhasa responsibilityto commissionthe servicesnecessary
tomeetthehealthneedsofthewhole CCGpopulation within the resourcesavailable.Given thehuge demandsontheseresources, difficultdecisionsregarding prioritisation offunding have had tobe made.
When commissioningplasticsurgerythe CCG has toensurethatthere isappropriate accesstoservicesfor patientswho areundergoing treatment for:
•Traumaand surgery; acuterepairandacutereconstruction
•Cancersurgeryandreconstruction
•Burns; acutecare andreconstruction
The CCGwill routinelycommission plasticsurgery in these circumstancesandpatientsmaybereferreddirectlyto secondarycare. Cosmeticsurgical proceduresforthecorrection ofchangesassociated with age, pregnancy,weightorbecause ofunhappinesswith body image areoflowpriority.These will notberoutinelycommissionedfrom orperformedbysecondary/tertiaryservicesin PlasticSurgery,
Dermatology,General Surgery,Ophthalmology,oranyotherspecialty,
orfromprimarycare based MinorSurgeryServices,unlessexceptional clinical need can be demonstrated andprior approval given bythe CCG’s Individual Funding Request Panel.
Referral
guidance / Exceptional casescan be referredtothe CCG’sIndividual Funding
RequestPanelfor priorapproval.
