Community Events Fill Up ABAC CalendarThis Fall

TIFTON — Musical performances, theatre presentations and special events at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village dominate the fall semester lineup of activities at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Selected events are open to the public at no charge. Other events require admission.

Fall events from the ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series will feature the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. at the Tift County High School Performing Arts Center, the Neeman Piano Duo on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on the campus of ABAC, and “Tuesdays with Morrie” starring M*A*S*H actor Jamie Farr on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium. All these performances require a ticket for admittance.

First Tuesday musical performances will include “A Night of Woodwinds” featuring Duo Astralis on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of All Faiths, “A Night of Jazz” featuring ABAC instructor Thomas Heflin and friends at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Chapel of All Faiths, and “A Christmas To Remember” featuring the ABAC Concert Band, Choir, Chamber Singers, Jazz Choir, and Jazz Band on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Tift Theatre.All First Tuesday performances are open to the public at no charge.

The ABAC Fall Choral Concert will be held on Nov. 2 followed by the Fall Band Concert on Nov. 13-14 and the Fall Jazz Concert on Nov. 16. All these performances will take place in Howard Auditorium at 7 p.m. There is no charge to attend these concerts.

The Baldwin Players will perform “Greater Tuna” at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on Oct. 26-28. Tickets are $10 at the door and free to ABAC faculty, staff, and students. Other events include the 17th Annual Ag Classic at ABAC’s Forest Lakes Golf Club on Sept. 29. Coeds will compete in the annual Ms. ABAC contest on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium. Prospective students interested in attending ABAC can visit the campus on Nov. 11 for Stallion Day.

Events at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture (GMA) and Historic Village at ABAC include A Celebration of Constitution and Citizenship Day on Sept. 16, the annual Trick or Treat in the Village on Oct. 28, and Welcome Home: A Celebration of Service on Nov. 11.

During the fall term, the entire campus will be closed on Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day. Students and faculty will enjoy the fall break on Oct. 16-17. Thanksgiving holidays for the students are set for Nov. 22-24.

For the holiday season, the GMA will offer the Victorian Village by Candlelight on Dec. 3 and the North Pole Express on Dec. 13-16. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be sold on the day of the event.

Fall semester classes end Dec. 6. Final exams at ABAC will take place on Dec. 7-8 and Dec. 11-12. The fall commencement ceremony will be in Gressette Gym on Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. For more information, interested persons can visit the ABAC web site at or call (229) 391-5004.
