  1. YoumustcompleteanEnhancedDisclosureandBarringServiceapplicationformif a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check is required foryour researchand you do not have an existingDBS check that has been carried out in the last year.

2.If the DBS was carried out in the last year by the organisation where you will be carrying the research out, please check with the Criminal Records Officer whether this falls into the correct category for the research you are planning to do. If it does, please complete the DBS Continuous Consent Form for student researchers who have had a DBS carried out by the organisation where you will be carrying the research out. If your DBS does not fall into the correct category, you will need to have a further DBS check carried out by Anglia Ruskin University.

  1. If you require a DBS check, please contact the Criminal Records Officerwho will send you the DBS information to complete. There is a fee (£44)for obtaining an Enhanced DBS Check and you need to check with your (Dissertation)Supervisor/Faculty Research Ethics Panel Administrator/Departmental Research Ethics Panel Administrator whether this will be paid for by the faculty or you need to pay for it yourself.
  1. UponreceiptoftheDBSEnhancedCertificatepleasekeepitsecurelyasyouwillberequiredtosubmittheoriginal DisclosuretotheCriminal RecordsOfficer prior to starting your research. Please refer to the DBS Guidance for Students. Upon receipt of a satisfactory DBS form, the Criminal Records Officer will notify your Faculty Research Ethics Panel Administrator or Departmental Research Ethics Panel Administrator who will record this and the date this information was received and notify the Departmental/Faculty Research Ethics Panel Chair and Committee.
  1. Alternatively,if you have previously subscribed to the DBS onlineUpdateService,you need to notify the Criminal Records Officer of this and providecontinuousconsent (by signing this form) and the original DBS DisclosurecertificatetotheCriminalRecordsOfficer. Please refer to the DBS Guidance for Students. The Criminal Records Office will then check the details online and inform your Faculty Research Ethics Panel/Departmental Research Ethics Administrator that you have had a satisfactory DBS check who will record this and the date and notify the Faculty Research Ethics /Departmental Research Ethics Panel and Chair of this.
  1. You are not permitted to start your research until youroriginalDBSEnhancedDisclosurecertificatehas been viewed and verified bytheCriminal Records Officer or theCriminal Records Administrator and your Faculty Research Ethics Panel /Departmental Research Ethics Panel has confirmed they have been notified of this.
  1. Students whose DBS Disclosure reveals reprimands, cautions, convictions or additional information will be required to submit further information as requested by the Criminal Record Officer for presentation to the Disclosure Panel and will not be permitted to carry the research out unless permission is received from the Disclosure Panel.
