COURSE DATES: Wednesday, January 20, 2016 – 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday, January 21, 2016–7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Friday, January 22, 2016 – 8:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:

Attendees at this convention/course will learn hands-on implementation of ideas covering everything from how to effectively revamp your STEM/STEAM programs to Twitter for School Leaders.

Superintendents, school business officials will join forces with school board members from around the state of Wisconsin to attend this annual leadership event and will network for the improvement of Wisconsin’s schools for the students, teachers and parents that they serve.

OBJECTIVES:

-To share multiple implementation ideas gained at this convention/course

-To have participants consider everything from how lighting affects student performance to building resiliency in your schools

-To learn to be proactive and lead for the present as well as for the future.

ISLIC Standards: Wisconsin Administrative Standards addressed in this course will cover components of all 8 standards in PI-34. WASBO Standards addressed will cover all 8 standards of PI-34 and their professional association,ASBO.

OUTLINE OF CONTENT:

-Attendance at all general sessions.

-Attendance at workshops or sectional presentations of interest to the individual course participant.

-WASDA/WASBO members assignment: As a component of the credit, participants are to read “Making the Case for Educating the Whole Child” found at: Write and attach to this validation form a 1-2 page paper on your perspective on the tenets outlined by the author.

The written assignment must be mailed in to either WASDA– 4797 Hayes Road, Suite 201, Madison, WI 53704 attn: Jon Bales or WASBO – 4797 Hayes Road, Suite 101 Madison, WI 53704 attn: Woody Wiedenhoeft – no later than February5, 2016– reports turned in after that date will not be graded and beyond this deadline no credit can be awarded for this convention/course).

METHODOLOGY:

Lecture, small group presentations, sectionals, workshops, videos, ITV, LCD presentations, overheads, large and small group sharing sessions and other related teaching and presentation aids will all be covered in the various lectures, large and small group work and general sessions.

ASSIGNMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS:

-Attendance at the January 20-22, 2016time-frame outlined above – including all general sessions and small group presentations – group sharing sessions, luncheon.*

*If you attend the pre-convention workshops, it can substitute for attendance on Friday, January 22, 2016.

-A written report addressing multiple ideas gained at the convention/course and should allude to the reading attached to this syllabus.

GRADING/METHODS OF EVALUATION:

Participation and written work should be done at the highest standard of quality and at the graduate level and needs to include the following:

A-100% attendance – all 3 days during the time-frame illustrated in this syllabus; participation in small and large group discussions and sharing sessions; concise written report with multiple application ideas gained specifically at the convention.

AB-100% attendance and 90% of the above assignment, participation levels, etc.

B-100% attendance and 85% of the above assignment, participation levels, etc.

BC –100% attendance and 80% of the above assignment, participation levels, etc.

C – 100% attendance and 75% of the above assignment, participation levels, etc.

If below a C is to be awarded, it means that participant did not attend the full convention and did not complete the written assignment on time and in a satisfactory manner.

BIBLIOGRAPHY INFORMATION:

There is no specific textbook that can be recommended. Periodical and newsletter information from the following presenters is readily accessible and will be encouraged during large and small group presentation work.
