Professional looking THEME POSTER FOR TEACHING AREA.
There will be a large map of the ballroom outside instructor’s door. You will sign up for your spot. It will be first come, first served. Be sure to look for electrical outlets, connections and walls for showing PP. Check out the ballroom, some areas will be in the middle of the area. Columns have electrically outlets and connections. If you do not have a wall, you may need to get a screen. As a group check out the ballroom.
Containers, e.g., three large boxes, for children’s boots, coats, and lunches.
Prepare choice activities, related to theme, for children to do. Not all children are going to arrive at the same time.
At least one of your activitiesmust include technology.
All teaching materials, example tags, certificates, posters will be shown to instructor prior to Extravaganza.
Individual lessons must have an MI STRATEGY referenced: name of strategy and pg. number. (The MI, name of strategy, pg in your text)
Must use technology at least once in your unit activities. See media center for equipment.
When planning, think about the kinds of teaching things we did in class, simulations; webbing; journaling; white boards; retelling; hands-on; books; author search; and literacy circle activities. I expect to see some ideas strategies methods from class.
TO get an “A” you need to use at least 3 outside resources to help you plan and teach. Need bibliography of each lesson plan. I should groups using lots of children’s books as teacher resources and with children. (Math activities need to generate lots of problems. BRING ALONG YOUR RESOURCEMATERIALS TO YOUR FIRST MEETING.
One of your activities you will be teaching will be evaluated, graded, recorded, and includes a written analysis.
To get an “A” for this activity you need to use strategies and a MI text. You need to show what you have learned in class and from the readings.
To get an “A” you will need to have correctly written, varied, and interesting theme, goals, general/content objectives, and behavioral objectives for your unit. When you meet with the instructor, the first thing you will be asked to tell is your goals and general objectives.
Avoid using “you guys”: use other nouns: boys and girls, children, class… Think of alternatives before you teach.
No candy or treats as rewards.
Check for allergies.
Do not use “QUIET.” Use “soft” or “inside” voices or “no talking.”
Dressed professionally, covered from neck to ankles or below knees.
No gum.
Check e-mail several times a day, everyday. You could assign a group member to do this task.
All group members need to contribute to this activity. If not all group members are participating, it is causing a hardship to all those who have the teaching passion, then I would like to be informed immediately. I want this to be learning and fun and empowering for all, not an activity where group members are struggling with each other to get things done. Groups or individuals who are not cooperating, following directions, or completing quality work on time will be removed from the activity and receive “0’s” for this project and all follow-up projects that are connected to activity.
Mandatory30 minute group meeting with Jane before WEEK OF APRIL 11 to go over all lesson plans. Must have typed on hardcopy or disk of teaching packet. All sheets completed. All group members must attend. Documents must be complete. See sign up sheet. A mandatory second meeting will also take place.
Mandatory meeting with instructor to look at teaching materials and final plans before Thursday21. I must see ALL your PREPARED TEACHING MATERIALS including tags, certificates, worksheets, posters, etc.
If you leaving the ball room for an activity, include a full sheet with the lesson plan that says when, where, and how long. (If you have cell, take along).
By Thursday 21midnightmaterials to be copied to Jane. Otherwise you will be responsible for copying.
MediaCenter in Kirby first floor is where you can sign out equipment: e.g., cameras, white board easels, projectors, laptops, monitors, etc. You are all on the Extravaganza list. What are your going to write information on as you teach? Easel? There will not be enough for everyone. Where will your “word wall” be? It is first come, first served. Reserve NOW. In the past, we have reserved almost all the equipment in the center. Get extra cords with all equipment in case you are a distance from an outlet.
You will each have a banquet table in your area. I am not expecting children to be placed at these tables. No primary children will be able to sit at these tables. They may be able to stand at the table to do a project. The floor can work great!
You will need to provide hard surfaces for children to use when writing or drawing, although the carpet can work.
Video your teaching. See media center for equipment. You are on record for extravaganza day. You should not need my permission. These artifacts will be used for your analysis/evaluation assignment due after the teaching day. Directions will be given on teaching day. Need to provide your own tape. Each group member will need a copy for their portfolio.
