SUMMER PROJECT – LEVEL 3 HAIR, BEAUTY and MAKE-UP STUDENTS
This summer project is designed to support your
Level 2 Award in Skin Cancer Awareness
You should complete tasks one and two only during the summer.
Further training will be provided once you are attending college to complete task three and any remaining questions in your portfolio.
TASK 1VTCT 1a. Define cancer and, in particular, skin cancer
To be able to answer the above questionyou should useat least five different sources of information to indicate the causes, signs and symptoms of contact dermatitis.
- Your research should include both text and pictures.
- Make a list ofall website addresses, text books or other locationsused during your research.
- The information may be copied to a pen drive or stored in an online account for access via computer when in college.
- The information will need to be uploaded to your VTCT e.Portfolio during your lessons.
TASK 2
VTCT 2a. Identify some of the most common causes of skin cancer
VTCT 2b. Describe ways that skin cancer may be prevented
Use yourresearch to create a leaflet which will provide hairdressers or beauticians with information to educate clients on how to stay safe in the sun.
Your leaflet must be colourful and eye catching and as a minimum must include;
- Common causes of skin cancer
- Ways to prevent skin cancer
TASK 3
VTCT 3a. Describe how you may be in a position to raise awareness of skin cancer and alert clients to changes on their skin
VTCT 3b. Describe the five components of the ABCDE Guide, using appropriate language
VTCT 3c. Describe how to approach the subject with your clients and where to signpost clients, using appropriate language
VTCT 3d. State the health and safety regulations for the use of sunbeds
- Write a short paragraph which provides at least three reasons why hairdressers and beauticians are well placed to support skin cancer awareness. (200 words)
- Research the ABCDE warning signs of skin cancer. Write your own instructions which will help clients perform their own skin check. (400 words)
- Explain why it is important to use an appropriate manner and language when approaching this subject with clients. (200 words)
- Provide an overview of the Sunbeds (regulation) Act 2010. (200 words)
