Reading I, II, III

Mrs. Kelly Junot 254-761-5650 x2231 conference: period, 2:05—2:50

Dear parents & students,

I’m excited to be teaching at Midway High School this year! In my class, students will read a variety of books, magazines, essays and newspapers each week. The reading will serve as a springboard for students to respond in writing. The work we do in class will prepare students for success in English as well as other subjects, standardized tests, and ultimately college work.

Classroom Rules:

In order to maintain a positive learning environment, students must follow the MHS rules as outlined in the Student Handbook. I will be especially diligent in enforcing the standards of conduct and use of electronic devices during class (cell phones, iPods, cameras, etc.) so that every student has an equitable right to learn.

In our classroom, students must:

*Be responsible (follow directions, turn in work, bring necessary supplies)

*Be respectful (treat each person politely, demonstrate maturity and actively participate in all activities)

Classroom Procedures:

Students will be in their seats when the tardy bell rings. The warm-up assignment will be on the front board and should be completed by the time I take attendance. Students must ensure they are prepared for class with their materials (journals, sharpened pencils, homework) BEFORE class begins. It is campus policy that students are not to be released from class during class time. All personal needs must be addressed before the tardy bell.

Consequences:

1st offense – warning

2nd offense – parent contact, student conference

3rd offense – detention with me (after the bell, at lunch or after school, to be determined after offense)

Repeated offenses – written referral for discipline

Grading:

Practice (homework, outside of class work) 30%

Application (in-class assignments and projects) 30%

Evaluation (tests and major projects) 40%

Classroom Supplies

Students must bring their personal supplies every day, as well as supplies for the classroom to be collected at the beginning of the year. I will NOT issue supplies in class.

1. spiral notebook journal (may be left in classroom bucket)

2. blue or black pens

3. #2 pencils (daily work and scantron tests)

4. colored pocket folder in which to keep notes and assignments

Make-up Work:

If you are absent from my class, it is your responsibility to make up your work within three (3) days of your return. Assignments are placed in a daily folder in the classroom for the student to retrieve. Any work not turned in within the absence time frame will result in a 0. Students may schedule tutorial times before or after school for additional help.

I am looking forward to a positive, productive year. If you have questions, concerns or ideas, feel free to email me. I will get back to you the same day.
