Welcome Back!

We hope you all had a great Easter Holiday. The children have come back ready and keen to get started with the new term. Reception and Year 1 both really enjoyed their visit to the Dock Museum where they took part in dance sessions and other fun activities.

Archbishop of York Award

We were lucky enough to receive a visit from Archdeacon Vernon Ross he was presenting the Young Leaders Award to Year 4. He thought, rightly, that we had a fantastic school and the children were a real credit to you all.

Cricket

Year 5 and 6 have started cricket sessions on Tuesday with Laura Marshall who is Cumbria Women’s Cricket Development Officer. Year 1 are also about to start taster rugby sessions in school time with Graham Shaw of Hindpool Tigers. I’m sure all will enjoy the experience.

After School Clubs

After school clubs will start week beginning the 1st of May (next week)

NO MINIBUS

There will be no school minibus available at home time on Wednesday 3rd May because they are being used for outdoor education in the Lake District.

Years 3 and 4

Some Year 3 and 4 children will be taking part in cross country relays at St Bernards next week- letters will follow. Can Year 3 children please return their slips and money for their residential trip- thank you.

Road Safety

We had another ‘near miss’ this morning when children were being dropped off. We can and do speak to the children on a regular basis about road sense, we keep staff on the gate to support child safety, we have spoken with the local councillor and the local police regarding traffic calming and communicated with you on a weekly basis through this newsletter.

The vast majority of parents and carers support all these measures. For those who don’t, please, do not place your own convienience and attempts to save time over the safety of the children in the school. I have contacted Parking Services and Lumley Street will be a focus for Traffic Warden patrols, so anyone on double yellow lines is liable to receive a parking ticket.
