E-Calamity Days

As winter continues, the likelihood of us needing to use more calamity days is a strong possibility. I wanted to remind you of a program that we use here at Miami East called e- calamity days. You may have heard them referred to as blizzard bags in other school districts. The state allows us to have 3 electronic calamity, or e-calamity days. These are days where students are to complete assignments that can be gotten online that will count as actual school days. In the event that we go past five calamity days, students will need to complete the assignments designated as e-calamity days. As of Friday, January 9th, we have used all five days, so the next three calamity days off will require students to complete the e day assignments. These assignments can be found by doing the following.

  1. Go to the Miami East Elementary Website.
  2. Hover over the “Resources” link near the top of the page until the drop down menu appears. Select e-day materials.
  3. On the next page click on fourth grade team e-day materials on the left.
  4. Students should then click on the all the assignments for whatever e-day it is. For example Day 1 would be our sixth calamity day, Day 2 would be our seventh, and Day 3 would be our eighth calamity day. Some assignments will open in a separate window while other will download as a doc or pdf file.
  5. Students should print off and complete those assignments and return them to school the next day. There are assignments for each day in language arts, reading, math, spelling, science, and social studies.

Some of these assignments are long but remember, they are supposed to take the place of a day of school. If we anticipate having these days off, we will attempt to print these packets up in advance to send home with the students just in case. If not, please try to do this at home. Students who are unable to complete these assignments at home during the e-calamity day will be given the assignments on the next day of school to do as make up work.

Sincerely,

Mr. Roth
