Thank you for your interest in becoming a chaplain in the Department of Veterans Affairs. To apply, please follow the steps outlined below:

  • Contact your Diocesan Bishop to let him/her know of your desire to become a VA chaplain.
  • Submit your application to our office.
  • Send us a recent photo.
  • Submit a Spiritual Journey paper that details the whys and hows of your decision to become a priest and in particular, why you want to become a VA chaplain.
  • Ask your Diocesan Bishop to write a Letter of Concurrence stating that you are a priest in good standing and that he/she recommends you for endorsement (this can be done by email).
  • Ask your undergraduate and seminary institutions to send us copies of your transcripts.
  • Send us a copy of your Personal Profile that you filled out for the Episcopal Church.
  • Ask three people who know you well to email us a letter of recommendation. Two letters should be from clergy, and the third from a lay leader in the church.

When we have all of the above information, we will ask that a background check be done, and schedule you for an interview. Travel and accommodations will be paid by our office. You will be notified of your endorsement status within 48 hours of your interview.
