Lancashire Scheme of Work Course 2006

The New Lancashire Scheme of Work course is designed around National Curriculum for Physical Education (PE) 2000, the QCA scheme of work for PE, QCA core tasks and the Youth Games Trust TOPS cards. The course will look at long term, medium term and short term planning in games activities, gymnastic activities, dance activities and athletic activities. The course will also look at progression and assessment through the scheme.
Each school will receive a new scheme with lesson plans for each area of activity.
New Foundation Scheme of Work and British Gymnastics FUNdamentals Cards

The new Lancashire Foundation Stage Scheme of work for Physical Development and Creative Development has been designed to incorporate the British Gymnastics FUNdamental cards. This course will look at the planning for Foundation Stage children and lesson plans based on the FUNdamental themes along with creative movement lesson plans. The aim is to support teachers delivering physical and creative development through a fun theme with these resources.
Each teacher will receive the new scheme and the British Gymnastics Fundamental Cards.
This course has an element of practical work so teachers should be dressed appropriately.
Fit for TOPS
28 November 2007 - Preston
Fit for TOPS encourages 7 to 11 year olds to understand the effects and benefits of physical activity and uses a variety of cards to help young people learn that physical activity and games is a great way of being healthy. It is also designed to encourage young people to adopt an active lifestyle in parallel with the development of their gamesing skills. The Fit for TOPS resource cards support the health related exercise requirements of the National Curriculum and offers activities to include young disabled people.
Each teacher will receive a Fit for TOPS resource booklet and cards.
This course has an element of practical work so teachers should be dressed appropriately.
TOP Play
21 January 2008 - West Lancs
The new phase of TOP Play has been developed from the original programmes with enhanced resources and training for teachers. This new phase is linked with the Qualification and Curriculum Authority’s units of work and the National Curriculum for Physical Education (PE) 2000.
The TOP Play resource cards now feature the four aspects of the National Curriculum 2000 and are designed to support 4 to 8 year olds as they acquire and develop core skills. The cards also feature a section on including young disabled people.
Each teacher will receive a set of TOP Gymnastic cards and a handbook.
This course has an element of practical work so teachers should be dressed appropriately.
TOP Athletics
12 March 2008 - Chorley
TOP Athletics introduces children to the basic principles of running, jumping and throwing and is designed for use with children aged 7 to 11 years old.
The TOP Athletics cards now feature the four aspects of the National Curriculum 2000. They are designed to offer a variety of related activities and give useful hints to teachers on issues such as safety and progression. They also offer activities to include young disabled people.
Each teacher will receive a set of TOP Athletics cards and a handbook.
This course has an element of practical work so teachers should be dressed appropriately.
TOP Outdoors
24 April 2008 - Tower Wood
The TOP Outdoor resource cards aim to introduce children to a range of skills under the broad heading of outdoor and adventurous activities. The cards are divided into 3 categories, physical challenges, trails and orienteering. All the activities can be used with a whole class and on the school site. The activities on the cards develop generic skills of teamwork and co-operation, trust, communication, planning, decision making and independence.
Each teacher will receive a set of TOP Outdoors cards and a handbook.
This course has an element of practical work so teachers should be dressed appropriately.
TOP Games
20 June 2008 - South Ribble
The new phase of TOP Games has been developed from the original programmes with enhanced resources and training for teachers. This new phase is linked with the Qualification and Curriculum Authority’s units of work and the National Curriculum for Physical Education (PE) 2000.
The TOP Games resource cards now feature the four aspects of the
National Curriculum 2000. The cards also feature a section on including young disabled people. TOP Games cards have now been developed under families of activities, e.g. invasion games, net and wall games, and striking and fielding games. The resource also incorporates new activities to complement existing games resources including badminton, volleyball, baseball and softball.
This course has an element of practical work so teachers should be dressed appropriately.
