PREVENTING POLITICAL VIOLENCE WORKSHOP

This five day highly interactive workshop introduces participants to the various forms of contemporary and emerging political violence in the world, an introduction to systems of early warning and early response, and a framework for planning and conducting violence prevention It also presents a feature element on dealing with rebels, insurgents and terrorists and self-care in lethal environments.

The course draws on the ground-breaking work in violence prevention conducted in West Africa by Dr. Ben Hoffman, former director of Conflict Resolution at The Carter Center.

A workshop for those who are or will be putting themselves in harm’s way, either within the domestic or international context, the workshop modules are: best practice – what works, what doesn’t work; the anatomy of political violence; emerging threats to peace and order; dynamic violence prevention – implementing best practices; and designing Early Warning, Early Response Mechanisms.

Presented by: the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation and the Institute for Dispute Resolution at the University of Victoria.

Cancellation Policy:A cancellation made later than one week prior to a course will be subject to 50% of the course fee. Cancellations made earlier than one week prior to a course will be subject to a $75.00 Administration Fee.
