Dear students and parents:

Welcome to Publications I & II. I am very excited to begin this course with you. In this course, students will work individually and cooperatively to produce a unique and superior yearbook. Students will be assigned at least two spreads per deadline. It is their responsibility to attend class every day, work on their spreads in class as well as at home, take photographs at events, conduct interviews for spreads, and actively participate in class lectures. Work can be done at home using

Required Materials:due Sept. 4th

1- Agenda/planner

1 – notebook with paper and pockets

2 – pencils with erasers or pens

~I strongly recommend purchasing a 2.0 flashdrive – at least 2G in size – for saving projects/papers/images throughout the school year. They can be purchased at any office supply store for under $20.00.

Grading:

Participation – 60% ( this includes but is not limited to: attending events, working on spreads, meeting deadlines, and attendance in class)

Assignments – 20%

Spreads – 20%

The yearbook signing party is the second semester exam. It will be held on May 18th, 2010. Students are expected to attend this event. It will require them to remain after school until 5pm. There is no way to make up this exam. Failure to attend the entire event will result in a score of 0/100. Please make sure to put this date in your planner.

Classroom Rules:

  • Arrive on time and be prepared
  • Respect for otherpeople and their property
  • ALL electronic devices must be off and out of sight
  • NO food or drinks of any kind around computers
  • Water only permitted in the classroom
  • Clean up after yourself
  • BoulderCityHigh School rules will be strictly enforced

Policies and Procedures:

  • Students will assume responsibility for any camera equipment borrowed from BCHS. Students will be required to reimburse BCHS for any damages done to camera equipment while in their possession; no exceptions.
  • Students are expected to attend events related to assigned spreads and yearbook activities; no exceptions.
  • Poor attendance (excused or unexcused) is unfair to others in the class, your partners, and will have a large impact on quarter and final grades.
  • Students are expected to be trustworthy, exhibit respect for themselves and others, and accept responsibility for their actions.
  • Students are considered late if they are not in the classroom at the bell.
  • Students with excused absences will have five school days to turn in late work for full credit. No late work will be accepted five school days before the end of each grading period.
  • Athletic and extracurricular academic and conduct requirements will be monitored and communicated to coaches/administrators on a regular basis.
