Rug Mount, same as shoulder mount
Why should I do my taxidermy work in Africa as apposed to elsewhere?
Most good taxidermists will give you good quality trophies no matter where they are based. You are already paying for the shipment of the trophies to your home, you may as well process them here instead of paying for partially processing them, shipping them and then having them rehydrated at home and mounted.
I have heard of hunters losing their trophies and never seeing them again once they Leave South Africa.
We own the hunting company and the taxidermy which is on site. We did this in order to give you the full service without a break in the chain. We are responsible for getting you here on a hunt, looking after you and making sure you leave happy. We want you to come back again so there will be no problems with you losing trophies.
I am not sure of all the choices involved in mounting my trophies, Can you help?
Before you leave, your PH will go through all the options available to you. Danwyn, our taxidermy manager will be available at the studio at the lodge, ask your PH to take you around and chat to him about specifics. But please try and have your final instructions by the time you leave as this allows us to start the permit application process immediately, ensuring a speedy turn around time for you receiving your trophies.
How long will it take you to finish my trophies?
Around 5 months for Dip and pack and 8-9 months for mounting. The only foreseeable holdups would be permits (generally the government permit office is on form).
How are the trophies prepared for shipment?
The trophies are carefully packed in specially designed crates to minimize the size and cost to you. After crating we contact our shipping company, Rex Freight, will collect the crate from our studio, contact you directly and make all of the necessary arrangements for transport.
How much will it cost to ship my trophies?
After you have returned home, give us a shout at for an estimate on what your crate size should be, we will send that to the shipper and get a rough estimate. It will only be accurate on the day of shipment.
What do the admin and crating fees cover?
The $300 covers the hunting permits and the crating materials for your trophies. Once we have about a month to go, we will give you a final request for completion on payment. When this is confirmed, your trophies will be collected by Rex Freight. They will contact you by email and you will deal with them regarding the shipping/air freight section of the process.
Can we ship our trophies together in 1 crate with a friend?
USA: Areas where you can share: Atlanta, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Seattle
Areas where you can not share: Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Louisville, Los Angeles, Portland
Europe: All of Europe except for Spain.
Canada: Can Share
Russia: No sharing
Partially processed and fully processed trophies?
All crates going to the USA must either be fully or partially processed. If you have shoulder mount and dip and pack in the same load, they have to be crated and shipped separately. This will incur extra costs. We advise you to either mount or dip and pack your trophies. Trophies going to Europe can be mixed except for Warthog or Bushpig. If you have mounted trophies and dip and pack Warthog or Bushpig, they have to be put in a separate crate. If they are all mounted they can go together. A skull mount is considered a mounted trophy so that is a way of getting around this hassle.
Can I get my trophies prepared for mounting at home i.e. getting capes getting tanned in South Africa?
We do not doing this as we use a different tanning process to the rest of the world. Experience has shown that the rehydration process can be a problem.
