Diet Research Assignment

Diet is one of the most important aspects of health. You will select two diets, or modes of eating, and research them. Some examples of diets you can choose from are: the Mediterranean, the Heart Smart, vegetarian, vegan, Atkins, South Beach, GI Diet, Sonoma. If you research vegetarian, do not do vegan (and vice versa). Try to choose two diets that do not have similar features.

You might want to check out

You will look at many factors:

The requirements of the diet (calories, portions and servings, percentages, etc.)

What foods are you encouraged to eat? Why?

What foods are to be avoided? Why?

What effects will this have on your health?

What studies or doctors support this diet?

You will then look at your own life and answer the following questions.

1)For each diet, discuss whether or not you believe the claims. Explain your reasons.

2)For each diet, do you think it would be easy or hard to follow? Why?

3)Reflect on which diet you feel would work best for you? Why is this?

After completing the diet research, you will research one exercise programs or routines. Some examples of exercise programs you can choose are: P90X, Crossfit, interval training, pilates, yoga, Tabata, Insanity, etc. You should pick one that you could see yourself actually doing.

You will look at:

What sort of exercises does this workout typically entail?

The frequency and duration of the workout

The goals of the workout (weight loss, muscle gain, core strengthening)

What are the requirements to participate in this activity (weights, bike, pull-up bar, etc)?

What effects will this have on your health?

What studies or doctors support this type of exercise?
