Easy

FAIR

Fair ticketing for people with a disability who require a companion.

An easy way for organisations to comply with some of their obligations under disability anti-discrimination legislation.

What is the

Companion

Card?

Companion Cards are available for people with a disability who require a companion to enable them to access community activities.

The card assists organisations that charge admission or participation fees, to recognise the right to fair ticketing of people who require a companion.

It is recommended that a cardholder’s companion be admitted at no charge, in order to comply with part of the existing disability anti-discrimination legislation.

Why has the Companion Card been developed?

Some people with a disability require

the assistance of a companion to access or participate in the community.

The practice of charging an admission or participation fee for companions effectively increases the admission price for some people with a disability. This is discrimination under existing Victorian and Commonwealth disability anti-discrimination legislation.

The Companion Card promotes the recognition of the existing right of people who require companions, to fair ticketing. It is not a discount, concession or benefit program.

Who can apply?

You can apply for a Companion Card if:

  • You have a disability, (which may include issues related to ageing and psychiatric illness); and
  • Your disability is permanent, or likely to be permanent; and
  • You require a companion to assist you to access community venues or activities; and
  • You live in Australia, or you reside in Australia under a valid visa.

Where can the card be used?

Any organisation that charges an admission fee can accept the Companion Cards and admit companions at no charge.

Organisations that have formally registered to accept Companion Cards may display the logo at their premises or on promotional material.
