General Music 9/8-9/11

September 8, 2014:

Objectives:To use knowledge of steady beat and 4 beat patterns to create call and response patterns. Students will be able to improvise 4 beat patterns at their respective turns. Students will notate duration and rests in music

Procedure:

  1. Tell students to grab water jugs when they arrive into the room.
  2. Recall what value beats have and what whole notes and divided notes.
  3. Add “rests” into our music writing.
  4. Have students divide into pairs for 8 minutes and create a duet where students alternate between four measure ideas at least 4 times.
  5. How many beats would that be total? (32)
  6. Share with the class.

Assessment:Students will be writing down their duet for assessment.

September 9, 2014:

Objectives: Students will use their knowledge of notation and rhythm patterns as learned to turn a quote into a small song.

Procedure:

  1. Students will each receive their own unique quote.
  2. Find rhythmic patterns that would work for the quote write the notation over each word.
  3. Get their rough draft checked
  4. Transfer quote and musical notation to a new piece of paper and decorate it.
  5. After finished decorating practice song and rhythm pattern on the drum.

September 10, 2014:

Objectives:Students will use their knowledge of notation and rhythm patterns as learned to turn a quote into a small song.

Procedure:

  1. Finish up projects from yesterday
  2. Share with class

September 11, 2014:

Objectives:Students will use their ability to write music notation to read music notation and add counts to the music.

Procedure:

  1. Pass out rhythm sheets.
  2. Explain time signature
  3. Show using Epson board how you would write in counts for beats, divided beats, and rests.
  4. Work through entire rhythm sheet writing in rhythm counts
  5. Practice counting and clapping rhythms

Assessment:Students will be assessed on their labeled rhythm sheets.

September 12, 2014

Objectives: Students will use their ability to count and clap to add counts and clap rhythm to a familiar song.

Procedure:

  1. Pass out sheet music to a handful of current popular song.
  2. With a partner, figure out the counts and clap the rhythms for the tune.
  3. Share with the class.
  4. Writing: Write 3-5 sentences: Did you think rhythms for popular songs were easier or harder than you originally perceived them to be?

Assessment: Students will be assessed on writing zinger.
