Dear Teachers,

Summer seems as if it will happen earlier this year with the mild winter we have enjoyed!

We are thrilled to announce our second year of Hamburg Horizons Summer School. Many thanks to the teachers who were tremendous, the visiting teachers including a Geologist who brought in really cool rocks, dinosaur bones, and stories of his travels to unearth relics from past ages. We learned the life of a bee and how they make honey, what birds are found in our backyard and how many ears of corn grow on a cornstalk (one, we were all amazed to learn!). Bugs and insects always make us go yeck, but it was amazing to see so much variety up close! Most of all we would like to thank the students who brought the school to life!

Funding is 100% tuition based. We will use any excess proceeds and donations from this year to provide tuition assistance on an as needed basis. Courses other than proficiency courses will not run if enrollment is less than 5 students. Please include a list of supplies, this will help us to plan in advance.

The Hamburg School District will be reviewing all applications and course ideas.

Attached are class ideas from other districts. If you have a course idea not on the list, please feel free to submit it. If you have grade restrictions for your enrichment class, please note the appropriate grade(s) on the form. You may teach multiple courses. Classes will be held at the Hamburg Middle School due to renovations at the other schools.

The deadline for submission is March 15. Please return the completed forms to your building office. They will be picked up at end of school on March 16th, or they can be mailed to Hamburg Horizons, PO Box 1111, Hamburg, NY 14075.

The program will run Monday through Thursday, July 9th - August 2nd from 8:30am until 11:50.

A Summer Musical will run from August 6th – August 23 from 9am until 11:30. Mrs. Juanita Huber and Cindy Edie will be leading the program.

Teachers will receive $22.50 per hour for teaching a course. There will be an additional payment for three hours of preparation time per class.

Our non-teaching staff is voluntary, except for Emergency Medical Technicians who will be on duty during school hours. Teachers must be NY State Certified.

If you have questions, please email: or call Sharon Raymond at 225-3077.

Regards,

Hamburg Horizons Summer School
