CARIS Camden Families – Play and Learning Support Worker

Scope of the Post

-To support the Project Manager in helping to run Belmont Kids Club’splay-and-stay sessions for 3-12 year olds at Belmont Hostel, Chalk Farm

-To oversee the Homework Club sessions for 4-16 year olds at England’s Lane Hostel, welcoming and supervising the children, and supporting the learning-support volunteers

-To give direct support to children and their parents living in Belmont Hostel and England’s Lane Residence.

Playwork atBelmont Kids Club

-To be the secondary staff presence at each Belmont Kids Club session, alongside the Project Manager

-To help plan simple arts and crafts and play activities for each session, and to deliver these activities, with support from the volunteers

-To advise the Project Manager on purchasing of arts and crafts resources, relevant to these activities

-To engage in unstructured free play with the children during the sessions

-To prepare after-school snacks for the children in the Club kitchen

-To be a friendly and welcoming presence for the parents

-To undertake simple Health and Safety checks of the Club’s premises prior to each session

-To log any accidents, incidents or safeguarding concerns, and to report these to the Project Manager as soon as is appropriate

Learning Support at England’s Lane Residence Homework Club

-To act as the secondary staff presence atthe Homework Club, alongside the Project Manager, supporting children, parents and learning-support volunteers during Club sessions

-To develop towards running every second Homework Club session as the sole staff member present, following training

-To liaise with hostel staff on the day of the sessions, as-and-when needed

-To offer support to the children during the sessions, either through direct help, or through matching them with learning-support volunteers

-To set-up and pack-away the Homework Club room, and to ensure all valuable equipment belonging to CARIS Camden Families is safely locked away (e.g. laptops).

-To log any accidents, incidents or safeguarding concerns, and to report these to the Project Manager as soon as is appropriate

Volunteer Support

-To guide and motivate volunteers during the club sessions

-To pass on any volunteer issues or concerns to the Project Manager

Contributing to development of the Project

-To help the Project Manager to investigate ways in which CARIS Camden Families can expand its support offering to Belmont Hostel and England’s Lane Hostelfamilies, including the development of a school holiday programme.
