Re: Health and Crime Hazards in Lakefield and Westdene
Dear Mr Le Roux,
Please could you arrange for the Council to attend to and clear up the following municipal areas in Lakefield/ Westdene, Benoni. Some are vacant stands where the owner has neglected to keep their property clean and should be served with a notice. Please can I have copies of the notices or failing that please let me know when they have been served.
Outside 2B Edward Street, Westdene – A heap of illegal dumping and burnt material in the corner of this street which is Council owned.
The Park at the end of Edward Street (on Main Rd), Westdene inside the enclosure outside 2B Edward Street – needs to be cleaned up as tyres and branches lying all over the park as well as a trolley.
Rubbish heap at Stymie & Divot, Lakefield– please can this be cleared up as it is becoming a health hazard. A notice should be put up stating NO DUMPING!
5 Lomond Road - Two years have passed since an old Brossley-tiled double storey was demolished. The property has stood in this demolished state since. It is a breeding ground for vagrants. These are exactly the people we don't want in the area, more so since an increase in LakeWest's crime levels have been highlighted. The owner of this property needs to be sanctioned by EMM officials.
Louw Ave, Lakefield
Erf 1/113 (pan handle next to no. 21) – The Owner is building and needs to be served a notice to keep his property clean and maintained.
Erf 1/111 (pan handle next to no. 19 (or 19A it is not clear). The Owner is building and needs to be served a notice to keep his propertly clean and maintained. There is a small brick building at the back, well hidden from the road andI saw a squatter moving the palisade fencing and walking in there on the afternoon of 8 January 2014.
Open piece of land between Erf no. 140 and 138 (11 and 13) Louw Avenue – It is overgrown with tall grass and trees – looks like a no mans land and it has been reported by various security companies that stolen goods have been recovered from this area. Criminals are using this overgrown piece of land to enter and exit houses in the area.
53 Sunnyside Ave - The house has been demolished and the owner keeps on promising us that he is either going to build or clear it of all the rubbish. This has been going on for 5 years. You were here nearly 3 years ago to inspect the place. He cleaned it once after your letter and nothing since. We have been infested with rats and vagrants frequenting the premises because there is a dilapidated wendy house still standing as well as and old garage. A nice place to hide in. All our attempts to get the owner to respond to our requests to clean up has been ignored. I beg you please enforce the law.
72 The Drive – This vacant stand is overgrown and unkempt both inside and on the pavement. The pavement is extremely high, and the grass has grown into the street. Please can the Council lower the pavement so that it is uniform with the rest of the pavements on The Drive and cut the grass on the pavement.
Vacant stands on the Cnr ofSher Ave & Sunny Rd, Lakefield
Erf 1/109
Erf R/109
Erf 2/109
The pavements are overgrown and full of litter, inside the walls of the property there are mounds of rubbish and burnt material. These stands have become a safe haven for vagrants who hide behind the walls and we have had complaints of rats. Please can the health department take the strongest action again the owner to keep his stands clean.
12 Cernan Road - Rubbish left on the pavement for over three months! This house seems to have numerous tenants moving in and out and the rubble remains. Please serve a notice to the owner.
24 Lunar Rd - Vacant property - 2 cars have been left in the garden to rust for over two years. Please serve a notice to the owner.
Please reply to to confirm receipt and advise when these matters have been attended to. We
Kind regards
