FunFRIENDS Program FRIENDS for LifeYouthProgram:

Training for Teachers and Parents of Pre-K-Gr.1, and Grades6-7 students

March 14th15th, 2011–Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport, Richmond, BC

The First Nations Schools Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and the First Nations Health Council, is pleased to announce training for teachers and parents in First Nations schools in the new Fun FRIENDS and FRIENDS for Life Youth programs. The Fun FRIENDS curriculum is specifically for teachers and parents of Pre-K – Grade One students. The Youth program is designed for teachers and parents of grades 67 students.

The curricula focus on developing strategies and habits to assist students in dealing successfully with stress and anxiety. The exercises throughout the program provide children with the tools for building supportive, healthy, relationships, encouraging them to adopt an optimistic, positive outlook on their future. The Youth program is geared for older kids, and builds on the strategies and skills introduced in the Child curriculum. For this year, the new Fun FRIENDStraining is being offered in place of the Child program intended for grades 3 – 5 teachers.

Teachers and Parents of Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 1, and Grades 6 &7 students in First Nations schools are invited to register for the FRIENDS for Life training. The event will be held at:

The Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport, Richmond, BC, March 14th & 15th, 2011

*The hotel offers free shuttle to and from the airport; please use this service as no reimbursement will be made for taxis to and from the airport.

FNSA will cover travel and accommodation costs for one teacher and one parent per school. If there are places available and a school would like to register additional participants, the travel and accommodation costs will be the responsibility of the school. Due to budget limitations, registration is capped atthe first 30 registrants for Fun FRIENDS and the first 30 for the FRIENDS for LifeYouth program. The full two-day agenda will be sent out 2-3 weeks before the event. Notification/updates regarding available spots will also be sent to schools in the weeks prior to the event.
