A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was a native daughter of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, born in Harrison County, and a longtime resident of Scott County; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was eminently active in her community, where she worked tirelessly for 4-H for almost half of a century; founded the 4-H council in Scott County; and served on the county, district, and state level of the 4-H organization in many capacities, including as president, treasurer, and secretary; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel gave liberally of her many considerable talents to the Parent Teacher Association, wherein she served as president; the Red Cross, wherein she served as the chair; and the United Way, wherein she also served as chair; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was socially active in her community, where she graced audiences with her singing in the SC Homemakers Choral Society and the Sweet Adelines; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was an active member of the Newtown Christian Church for more than 60 years, wherein she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and served God in many other roles in the church; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was a very talented gardener who garnered many local and state awards and was a founding member of the Lexington Farmers Market, over which she presided, in addition to being an active member; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel, in recognition of her service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, achieved the status of Kentucky Colonel; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was the loving and beloved mother of Tom Kriegel, Ray Kriegel, John Richard Kriegel, and Larry Kriegel; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was the loving and beloved grandmother of Michelle Lee Kriegel, Jennifer Rae Kriegel, and Ray Eugene Kriegel, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel was the loving and beloved sister of Gladys Boster, Addie Firman, and Eugene Hutchison; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel touched the hearts of many others including Jane and Kane Johnston, Bobby and Phyllis Rankin, and Betty Rose; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel held a special place in the hearts of Representative Charlie Hoffman, his wife, Ann, and their children, Brooke, Charles Jr., and Andrew; and

WHEREAS, Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel departed this Earth on February 23, 2006;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives and Representative Charlie Hoffman express their most profound sense of sorrow and extend their most heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel on the occasion of her passing; and they furthermore affirm that her wonderful demeanor and her good works will resonate throughout the hearts and minds of all those individuals who were fortunate to have made her acquaintance.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it shall do so in loving memory and honor of Lelia Katherine Hutchison Kriegel.
