Wayne Davis Concrete, the largest family owned ready-mix concrete provider in West Georgia, takes pride in caring for family: the seven family members who work for the Tallapoosa based business, long-time employees who are like family, and the “community family” the company serves.

“We try to create an atmosphere where our employees feel like a family,” says WDC President Chris Davis, whose mother, Joyce, and late father, Wayne Davis, founded the company in 1971. “We have a lot of long-term employees who have given us our backbone and strength. Companies are no better than the people who work for them, and our employees are the best.”

With 14 ready-mix plants, including facilities in Hiram and New Georgia, WDC’s 122 current employees and 100 ready-mix trucks deliver concrete, stone, wall block, designer and sidewalk block, gravel, sand, and related materials. WDC also stands for “When Delivery Counts!” as the company serves builders and contractors in 21 northwest Georgia counties from DeKalb to the Tennessee state line and into eastern Alabama. The Davis family business also has a fully staffed quality control lab, and its plants are computer-batched.

WDC’s president says the company values its solid relationships in Paulding County. “We enjoy working with the Chamber of Commerce, the Homebuilders Association, and the citizens of Paulding,” says Chris Davis. “I enjoy working with the Commissioners as well. Paulding Commissioners aggressively support local business, while the Chamber markets Paulding County both locally and abroad.”

Like many businesses that supply the struggling construction industry, Wayne Davis Concrete has experienced a decline in demand for residential work. “It’s been tough,” says the company President. “Less than 15 percent of our current jobs are residential. Thankfully, large industrial, road construction, and commercial jobs continue to develop. Wayne Davis Concrete and other providers are working to weather the present economic climate by serving these markets.”

Recent WDC contracts include such high-profile projects as Pumpkinvine Wastewater Treatment Plant, East Hiram Parkway, Paulding County Courthouse and Administration Building, Chattahoochee Tech, various Paulding County schools, Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport, Lagrange Bypass, SR 100 Bypass, Southwire, Georgia Tech Boggs Building, and various jobs at Georgia Power Plants Bowen, Hammond and Wansley.
