Student Welcome Volunteer

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Supported by: Student Opportunities Coordinator

Main purpose:

-  To welcome new and returning students to LSE during Welcome Week.

-  To be a visible and friendly face in and around campus during Welcome Week.

-  To support students through Welcome Week.

-  To lead events around campus and in London.

Overview of role:

We are looking for volunteers who have an interest in getting more students involved in the Students’ Union and would like to develop their leadership skills. You will contribute to the overall aim of Welcome Week ‘to make students feel welcome at LSE’, get students involved in the Students’ Union, and make Welcome Week accessible to all our students.

Responsibilities:

·  Helping to organise and lead events around campus and in London

·  Consider the safety of all students, including yourself and fellow volunteers

·  Promoting the Students’ Union around LSE

·  Supporting new students to settle into LSE

·  Recording attendances and reporting these to staff

·  Helping to shape the future programme

·  Carry out all duties you are assigned as per your individual schedule and attend any meetings requested, whenever possible. If you cannot attend or fulfil the duties in your timetable, please ensure apologies are given in advance.

Skills and Qualities:

·  Experience of leading a group or organising an activity

·  Ability to motivate and enthuse others

·  Understanding of the role and importance of the Students’ Union

·  Organised and reliable

·  Flexible approach

·  Confident public speaker

Training:

All volunteers will be given training and support to help them to understand and carry out their role. There will be a training day during the week commencing 11th September 2017 (TBC) for all volunteers and attendance is compulsory. You will also be offered additional training through our Employability and Development Program.

Times and Commitment:

You will be expected to commit to a minimum of two hours per day during Welcome Week (18th- 22nd September 2017) and possibly the weekend before (16th and 17th September 2017).

Location:

Variable depending on which activity you wish to support (could be on the LSE campus, LSE Halls or at another venue within central London).
