Volcano Research Project

Select one volcano to research from around the world and then create a presentation for the class. Use the guiding questions to help you with your research. Remember, you can be creative with your report. You can make any of the following in place of a written report: A volcano book, a google slide show, a stand-alone display board, short movie, a performance skit, and any other artistic creation you may come up with. However, if you want to do your report in your own way, I will have to approve it before you begin the project. Regardless of your choice, you must include the answers to the guiding questions in your presentation or report.

Guiding questions:

1.  What are its name, location, coordinates, tectonic plate, and geologic area?

2.  What are its age, type, and composition? Include size, altitude, and features.

3.  What is its condition? (Dormant, Active, Extinct.) Most recent eruption?

4.  Is it the result of a hot spot, or the result of subduction?

5.  What type of eruptions does it produce?

6.  What are some of the effects of past eruptions on the landscape, people, and the planet in general?

7.  What are some of the benefits of this volcano’s eruptions

8.  What tales and legends are associated with this volcano?

9.  What does the future holds for this volcano? What do experts predict?

10.  What should people do to prevent future disasters?

Requirements:

1.  Write a complete report on a volcano of your choice. Include a cover-page, body of research, and a bibliography.

2.  Use at least three books and three websites as reference.

3.  Include pictures and illustrations to help your report.

4.  All work is to be typed using Tahoma font size 12, double lined, and well organized.

5.  You may do a google slide show in place of a written report. However, the presentation must address all guiding questions.

6.  You may do a presentation board to showcase your report. Make sure the board is properly decorated to reflect the volcano of your choice.

7.  You may work in a small group. (No more than four students per group)

8.  Be prepared to present your project to the class. (Practice your presentation at home so that you will be ready to show your expertise on your volcano.)

Project due Thursday, December 18th, 2014.
