Introduction

Thank you for purchasing your ICAR LINK product. We expect that your purchase will give you many years of pleasure and we welcome you as our customer. Please note that any disassembly of the module or cable will void the product warranty.

ICAR LINK is designed to connect your iPod to your automobile’s audio system and allow you to control your iPod’s functions through the radio interface.

!  We recommend that you familiarize yourself with all the functions of the system prior to operating the ICAR LINK while the vehicle is in motion.

!  Please refer to Apple’s documentation for your iPod concerning leaving your iPod in vehicle where it may become exposed to extreme temperatures.

!  Please ensure that your iPod is:

•  Correctly installed and connected to ICAR LINK prior to use.

•  Secured in a safe location that will not hinder the operation of your vehicle.

•  Secured from moving or falling while operating the motor vehicle, sudden movement may cause damage to the iPod connector or the connector cable.

!  Do not attempt to plug-in or remove the iPod while driving.

!  Glancing at or using the audio system controls or iPod should be done only when it is safe to do so. If prolonged usage is necessary, pull over in a safe location.

Protecting your iPod

•  It is recommended that you protect your iPod with a case; this will help prevent iPod damage due to the motion of the vehicle.

•  Leaving your iPod in a closed vehicle may expose the iPod to excessive temperatures which may damage the iPod.

•  Placing items directly on the iPod connector can cause damage to the iPod and/or to the connector.

•  The iPod connector may not function properly if it comes into contact with food, drinks or other foreign substances.

Getting Started

For proper operation it is recommended that you have the latest iPod firmware.

You can download the latest version at www.apple.com/iPod/download. Alternatively, accessing the latest version of iTunes will automatically upgrade the firmware of your iPod. Please refer to your iPod Owner’s Manual for instructions on downloading the latest firmware. Regarding the general use of iPod and iTunes – please refer to the operating instructions, www.apple.com or www.itunes.com.

Terminology

Direct Mode A function that allows you to use your iPod as a handheld device. While using your iPod in direct mode, you have the option to select next and previous track through ICAR LINK.

Auxiliary Mode A function (AUX-IN) that allows operation of devices connected via the ICAR LINK RCA connectors. The auxiliary mode passes the audio of the connected device through ICAR LINK and all control is accomplished with that device.

Detent Knob The control (tuning knob) for the radio used to tune the radio stations

Quick Search A search technique for quickly moving through iPod track tracks. On the iPod this is accomplished by spinning the iPod’s click wheel on many radios the detent knob is used like the click wheel.

Auto-next An enhanced version of the setting “repeat”.

When auto-next is engaged, play will move to the next grouping on your list once the initially selected grouping has been played through, for example, if you chose to play all songs by artist-1, with auto-next on, play will continue with artist-2 once the artist-1 list is finished. With auto-next disengaged play will stop at the end of the list of artist-1 tracks.

Operational Notes

General

When you first connect your iPod to ICAR LINK through the XM band the last selection playing on the iPod will resume.

Lists of tracks will be presented (sorted) in the same fashion and sequence as they are presented on the iPod.

XM Band

Audio systems without an XM receiver will automatically go to iPod mode once you have selected the XM band. If you have an XM receiver, transitioning from other bands to XM/iPod mode will behave like a toggle switch selecting XM on the initial band cycle and the iPod on the next band cycle.

Changing modes or use with multiple iPods

Your ICAR LINK system is programmed to seamlessly switch and resume play between direct mode, ICAR LINK operation, stand-alone play and auxiliary mode.

§  Disconnecting your iPod from the system and reconnecting it to ICAR LINK will result in the same track resuming where you left off.

§  Disconnecting the iPod from ICAR LINK to use in stand-alone mode will pause the iPod. Resuming play will continue at the same track as was playing when connected to the audio system.

If the playlists are switched on the iPod in stand alone mode, upon reconnection with ICAR LINK play will resume on the track and list from stand alone mode.

Quick Search and Auto-next - Changing the play sequence when disconnected from ICAR LINK and then reconnecting to ICAR LINK may result in less than predicable results in quick search or auto-next mode as the content of iPod and ICAR LINK will be different. This is resolved by selecting new tracks to be played through ICAR LINK. Use with multiple iPods is also not predictable in these modes as the content of the iPods will differ.

Operating your ICAR LINK

Upon initialization your iPod will display a black and white GM logo on your iPod. This will indicate to you the unit is functioning and connected to your radio and automotive systems.
