NETWORKING BASICS

Benefits Of Computer Networking:

Some benefits of computer networks are given below.
(1) Computers which are connected through a network can share resources as hard drives, printers, scanners etc with each other.
(2) They can send file from one computer to another quite easily.
(3) You can connect all the computers which are connected through a network to the internetby using a single line. So it means that you can save the connection cost for each computer but you internet connection must be fast.
(4) IF you want to access data from the other computer which is the part of network then you can access data from that computer.
(5) Users can run those programs which are not installed on their computers but are installed on any other user's computer.

Network Connection Details:

As you can see from the above image that my computer is connected to two types of network i.e Broad band connection and local area network.

Wireless Or Wired Network:

In my opinion wireless network is more benefical then the wired network because in my opinion following are the advantages of the wireless or lan network on the wired networks.

  1. wireless network can provide the mobility to the user in its specific organization any where. This provide the productivity opportunities to the users which is not possible with the wired network.
  2. Wireless network is easy to install and connect because it dosenot require wires and cables for its networking. So it also saves the cost of cables and wires.
  3. It reduces the cost of ownership.
  4. wireless network can provide scalability which is not possible with the wired networks.

Hardware Devices TO setup The Networks:

Some of the Hardware devices used in Network are Routers, Switches, Modems, Hubs, Lan Cards.

Routers:The devices which are used two connect different computers in a network from a single primary network.

Switches:Ethernet switch, cut through, crossbar, cell backbone, store and forward, back presser, atm, LAN

Modems:A device for transmitting usually digital data over telephone wires by modulating the data into an audio signal to send it and demodulating an audio signal into data to receive it.

Hubs: In an Ethernet network, a device to which all clients and servers are wired. Most Ethernet hubs are active hubs and regenerate the data bits on the output side in order to maintain a strong signal. Ethernet hubs have mostly given way to Ethernet switches. See Ethernet, hub vs. switch and LAN.

Lan Cards: A network interface card, network adapter, network interface controller (NIC), or LAN adapter is a computer hardware component designed to allow computers to communicate over a computer network. It is both an OSI layer 1 (physical layer) and layer 2 (data link layer) device, as it provides physical access to a networking medium and provides a low-level addressing system through the use of MAC addresses. It allows users to connect to each other either by using cables or wirelessly.

Securing The Network:

Network security is the process of preventing and detecting unauthorized use of your computer. Prevention measures help you to stop unauthorized users (also known as "intruders") from accessing any part of your computer system. Detection helps you to determine whether or not someone attempted to break into your system, if they were successful, and what they may have done.

Fire Wall: A firewall is a part of a computer system or network that is designed to block unauthorized access while permitting authorized communications. It is a device or set of devices configured to permit, deny, encrypt, decrypt, or proxy all (in and out) computer traffic between different security domains based upon a set of rules and other criteria.

Firewalls can be implemented in either hardware or software, or a combination of both. Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet, especially intranets. All messages entering or leaving the intranet pass through the firewall, which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria.

Best Method For Connecting the office To The Interner:

Best way to connect a office to the internet is through a wireless network because if office has a wireless network. A person can do its office work any where he wants so he is always connected to his office wheather he is in the office or some where outside the office.
