PTA Meeting Minutes

October 21, 2016

Daniela Kou, PTA President, called the meeting to order at 8:45am. There were twenty two(22) PTA members in attendance. Daniela Kou led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Friday October 28th is Mr. Gibbs last day. We thank him for all his caring and dedicated service.

Teachers Report: Mrs. Hughes (6th grade)

Teachers say “thank you” to the PTA for all the programs and activities

Student Council : Stephanie Madison (6th grade) and Elizabeth (5th grade)

Red Ribbon Week was great this week – Kids LOVED it.

Pumpkin decoration competition starting on 24th

Green Team: Mrs Burnett. Will begin 11/14 - question from parent: can we get more information regarding GT.

Primary Art: Segerstrom program – they love the kids, and the program.

President’s Report: Daniela Kou

District meeting was last week:

  • Upgrading technology, internet bandwith 100gb network across IUSD.
  • Formula for funding for district (IUSD is one of the lowest funded district). 33,315 students, 1600 teachers, 166 administrators, 1600 support staff.
  • CA adopted new standards for language arts

Reviewed quickly the last PTA Meeting Minutes from September 16, 2016.

Moved, seconded and approved: the September Meeting Minutes on Friday September 16th, 2016.

Total balances on hand equal $156,729.94

Deposits totaled $39,181.79 (pledge drive, pta membership, spirit wear, company match)

Total Checks written were $3,439.78(membership dues, hospitality, fall festival)

Moved, Seconded and Approved: To pay all ordinary and necessary bills through the month of September 2016 as outlined in our adopted PTA budget.

Auditor’s Report: Aadra Lee

  • Performed second audit 2015 - 2016
  • Reviewed and adopt/approve audit for January 1 to June 30th 2016.

Synopsis of Previous Events

Welcome Back Festival – Pearl Corcoran

PTA Membership & Pledge Drive Goals and Updates – Dorothy Ly

  • Pledge Drive goal of $40k. So far, before matches $37,973
  • There will be a raffle for all those who pledged for 2 prizes
  • Membership: 394 PTA members (goal was to have 10 more than last year which we have met)
  • Class winners for most PTA members will be announced in November
  • Mr. Peters and Mrs. Kauffman leading so far

Reflections – Aadra Lee

  • 92 entries this year.
  • Judging going on now and winners will be announced next week. Posted on website. About 30 winners total
  • Reflections gallery on Tuesday 10/25 in Library at 8:30AM

Red Ribbon Week – Audra Bollard

  • Red Ribbon picture was fun !
  • BMX assembly was a huge success
  • Mr. Gibbs: was a great and successful week !

UPCOMING EVENTS/COMMITTEE REPORTS: 9:35AM

Culture Week: Focus on Europe. Will need a Chair for Family Fun Night for Culture Week.

Teachers Appreciation Week: Need a Chair too.

Dad’s Club: Joe Zimmy

  • Goal of buying computers for the school
  • Boomer’s night on Friday 10/28, 4pm – 8pm
  • Muffins for Moms – 11/4, 7:45 – 8:45am
  • Reminder on Golf Tournament at the end of the school year
  • Encouraging participation in the Dad’s club

Family Fun Night

  • Bingo Night on 11/4, 5:00 – 8:30PM; bingo starts at 6. (Lua Quant)
  • Tickets will go on sale tomorrow for Bingo
  • Food trucks

Fall Book Fair in the Library

  • 11/7 – 11/10 ONLY
  • Need Volunteers for Book Fair.

6th grade Guy’s Stuff on Wed 11/9, 6pm to 8pm (Jennifer Tran)

Veteran’s Day 11/11 – school closed.

IPSF Presentation: Kellie Pendergest

  • Bhuvna is the school ambassador for IPSF
  • IPSF anniversary: 20 years old
  • Non-profit partner of the school district – separate from IUSD, but exists to support IUSD
  • Provide instructional assistants, music, teachers grants for innovation, athletic trainers and school nurses, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, college career counseling
  • Fee based programs: ACE program, enrichment programs, after-school programs
  • Raising Funds: Gala, annual campaign
  • All donations are eligible to be matched by the City of Irvine. (2 to 1 match this year!)
  • Donate $2M in cash and about $3-$4M in programs to IUSD.
  • Uniting the community.. (steam carnival, tournament of champions- harvest cup, hoops classic winter bowl, etc)

Next PTA Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 17th, 2016 in the MPR at 6 pm.
