Voluntary Youth Worker
Permanent Position
3-6 hours per week
Dacorum
Do you have a passion for working with young people? Or, is this something that has always been of interest to you?
If so, we would be very interested in hearing from you!
We are a charity which was founded in Dacorum for the local young people. We will be opening two new youth clubs at the beginning of May 2018. Our aims are to empower young people by giving them a fun and safe environment in which they can thrive in.
The Role
We are looking for Youth Workers with a genuine passion for working with young people and helping them become everything they dream of and more. We are looking for a person who is energetic, adaptable, and is able to offer innovation and ideas to support this evolving service.
Teamwork and team culture is especially important to us, so we are looking for an applicant who is able to work positively within our team. We are also looking for people, like us, who want to help change the negative stereotypes casted upon young people by standing together and helping the public understand that young people are not a threat!
Staff wellbeing is also held within our services as high as any other aspect of our work, so we encourage staff to apply who share this value and who are able to provide compassionate and caring peer relationships and input into continuing to create an environment which is a positive, rewarding and fantastic place to work.
The Job
A key part of this role is to work within the new service providing support to young people and their friends, families and carers. You will be able to help them to; explain their concerns and needs, navigate their way through the options they have for support and self-help, and help them to make best use of that support.
Skills
The post holder must be willing to ‘get involved’ in our projects - sometimes this will mean an arts and crafts session, others it may be a kick around in the open space or it may mean a frank and open session around sexual health. We’re looking for fun people who want to engage in a conversation with young people and who can tell when something doesn’t seem right. It would be great to be able to put a post holders’ own hobbies and skills into play too i.e. if you’re a great cook, let’s use this skill for the benefit of the young people!
When:
Sessions will run twice weekly:
Wednesday 5-8pm and Friday 5-8pm
We are looking for volunteers who can commit to one or both sessions every week. It is imperative that the post holder shows true dedication to the role as we will not be able to open centres without a set number of workers and we do not want to let our young people down.
Important information:
Experience in the world of the Young Person is preferred however we are open to giving people a chance to excel.
