This syllabus is designed to outline the course objectives, standards, competencies and teacher expectations. After reading it, you should have a good understanding of what we hope to accomplish and how we will pursue the learning of French this year.
Course Description and Objectives
Course Description:
· This course is designed for students who have obtained a mark of A or B in French 2.
· By the end of this course, students will have revised and consolidated the grammar and vocabulary they acquired in French 2, and moved on to new aspects of the language. The aim is to enable them to write and speak French reasonably, accurately, and with confidence on subjects to do with their own lives and those of the French.
· Students are expected to communicate in the target language as much as possible.
Course Objectives:
From the National and State Standards for Foreign Language Learning
· Communication: Students will engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings, and emotions, and exchange opinions.
· Cultures: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture studied.
· Connections: Students will reinforce and further their knowledge of other discipline through the foreign language and acquire information.
· Comparisons: Students will demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of the language studied and their own.
· Communities: Students will use the language both within and beyond the school setting and show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment.
Classroom rules:
Respect each other and yourself
Respect our learning environment
Come to class prepared
Understand directions before you begin
Use appropriate language.
Consequences for breaking the rules:
Depending upon the circumstance, any of the following may be administered: a verbal warning, after-school detention, a phone call to the parent/guardian, a referral to the office.
Teacher availability:
I am usually available for students and parents/guardians during lunch or before school. If at anytime, you have a question about anything, please feel free to contact me at Frankfort High school.
Be prepared for class.
· Be on time and have all materials ready. This includes books, assignments, pencils or pen, and any other requested materials. School tardy policy will be strictly enforced.
· Only drinks in closed containers such as bottles will be allowed in class. Refrain from chewing gum since it is very difficult to speak another language with something in your mouth.
Supplies
· 3-ring binder or portfolio
· Notebook (for this class only)
· Pen, pencils, eraser, (no neons or red ink)
· 1 box of tissue for class use.
· Colored pencils
· French/English dictionary (Cassell’s is a good inexpensive one)
· Bring textbook, Allez viens 2 and workbook, everyday to class.
Assignments
· Most assignments will require less than 30 minutes of time. To successfully learn a foreign language, it is imperative that students practice. Late assignment will be graded down. You will be responsible for getting and turning in work missed during an absence. You will have 2 days to turn in work after returning from an excused absence.
· If you are absent, you should take advantage of ESS.
· Students are required to complete a portfolio of their work. This will be an important evaluation in the class.
· Assignment that is not collected during class must be put in the class’s assignment bin on the teacher’s desk.
· Please, date each assignment, and note if it is late due to an absence.
Portfolio requirements;
Students will complete a minimum of two portfolio pieces for the term. Students not completing these projects will jeopardize their course grade. There will also be public exhibitions of the student’s portfolios.

* Chapter test and poetry test 35%
* Quizzes 25%
* Daily grade (includes participation in class and homework) 10%
