Recap:
- Everyone agreed that the 2 PM time slot on Thursdays work best for everyone.
- Some of the presentations are over the heads of our members, need a quick primer on statistical lingo.
- Develop a webinar that highlights statistical terminology, clear explanation of regression modelling and what it means,
- Separate webinar on putting data analysis into English
- Data visualization, coefficient interpreting, best practices of communicating information to the executive leadership
- Interest from the group in identifying external data sources (i.e. public crime data), locations to get it and how it works into the modeling process.
- Interest in looking at vendors and how they use data analysis in their program. Particular interest in GPS tracking, maybe work with 3SI
- Interest in RFID data analysis, integration and issues – Kyle can present on this topic
- Social media monitoring and how to use data to react before a major incident. Is there anything a retailer can use (i.e. automated searches for an increase in mentions of a particular retail store to send alerts to that location).
- Developing metrics that can be associated with something where information isn’t captured
- Sweethearting for example, where an item is not scanned and thus no data can be collected. Are there ways in which we can model to find likely suspects or identify a relationship between associates and customer account totals to find particularly low value basket sizes
- Experimental design in the pilot project process – how to set up a pilot that can accurately measure the impact of a new technology, how to mitigate confounding variables, testing parameters, relative differences in efficacy from pre-post-designs, parallel designs, and mixed designs.
- Data security to be added as a potential topic for future webinars.
- Marie interested in how data analytics are functioning in the ecommerce world, how do we identify people gaming the system or committing fraud.
- What are companies doing analytics on Buy Online Pick Up in Store, online fraud, and how are all of these new avenues of purchasing affecting shortage at the store level.
Next Steps:
- Stephanie to follow up with Cathy regarding potential project of data analysis looking at no-scan issues.
- Gather member feedback and instill in the DAWG webinar survey.
- Find retailers willing to share shortage data in stores with omnichannel business flows to see if the retail industry is seeing an increase in shortage.
- Gather solution partner feedback on potential webinars on how they use data.
- Stephanie to chat with members regarding external data sources they use for either modeling or awareness.
